Title: ZIP RAM allocation in A3000 / A3000T
Post by: zimgr5 on March 30, 2009, 07:59:55 PM
Is there any rule how ZIP RAM chips should be allocated on the motherboard ?

I had to removed crumbled ZIP chips .
I leaved rest chips as pictured, but WB shows "0 other mem"

Should I reallocate them to make them visible by the system  ? How ? :-?

Thanks in advance.

"crumbled ZIPs"  :-o OMG  :-o

The RAMs need to be populated in this order:

3 3
2 2
1 1
0 0
3 3
2 2
1 1
0 0
3 3
2 2
1 1
0 0
3 3
2 2
1 1
0 0

as seen from the front - first bank 0, then 1, ... Your pic shows the missing top left RAMs, so the incomplete banks can't be used.

The banks are as follows:  (looking at the machine from the
front, where cpu expansion slot is)
(Note that to install ZIPs in bank 1, you must fill all
bank 1 ZIP sockets)

                ---bank4---    ---bank4---
                ---bank3---    ---bank3---
                ---bank2---    ---bank2---
                Y--bank1---    Y--bank1---
                ---bank4---    ---bank4---
                ---bank3---    ---bank3---
                ---bank2---    ---bank2---
                Y--bank1---    Y--bank1---
                ---bank4---    ---bank4---
                ---bank3---    ---bank3---
                ---bank2---    ---bank2---
                Y--bank1---    Y--bank1---
                ---bank4---    ---bank4---
                ---bank3---    ---bank3---
                ---bank2---    ---bank2---
                Y--bank1---    Y--bank1---
now thats 8 chips [8 times Y] to 1 bank.
