Title: Indivision and VGA projectors
Post by: murple on March 21, 2009, 03:36:52 AM
I mentioned this in a thread in the software forum, but it belongs here.

I bought an Indivision for my 1200. One of the main reasons was I wanted to be able to use it with projectors that have VGA inputs so I could do visual stuff at clubs etc. It works fine with VGA monitors (both CRT and LCD - unlike older ones that don't work well with LCDs). I assumed it'd work fine on a projector. After trying it on both a Dell and a Benq projector, I couldn't get it to work. The Dell said "out of range" and the Benq just didn't see the signal. These are both nice new projectors. Fortunately the Dell could handle both NTSC and PAL so I was able to use PAL composite to do the projections.

Any ideas why a VGA projector wouldn't work with the signal from Indivision? I tried both PAL and NTSC screenmodes. At one point it showed the Amiga screen briefly while still having a Dell logo and "out of range" error overlaid... then it went back to a plain error screen.

Did you contact individual computers about this?

I have several projectors at the office Dell and other models.  When I get back to the office on Monday I'll give them a shot.

Haven't contacted IC yet. Been laid out with a killer flu. Will email tomorrow.

Is there an official support site for the Indivision? Don't see any mention of it on the Individual Computer site.

The only mention I see is on the support page where there's the 1.4 update file.  Perhaps this will help your projector problem?

What scan rate did you try, the 1.0 (compatiable mode) or the 1.25 mode?

Running at the 1.0 mode (need for smooth scrolling) will normally result in a 50hz signal which may be too low for the projectors.

I really wish it had a quad-scanned 100Hz mode -- which is compatible with almost all monitors and projectors -- that would preserve smooth scrolling. =/

I'm using whatever you get if you drop an Indivision out of the box onto an NTSC motherboard, power on, use the boot menu to select PAL, and have WorkBench configured for high res (I tried both regular and interlaced).

Yes 100hz would be perfect :-D

Well it does use an FPGA so you never know (crosses fingers in knots!)

...which indicates that you haven't even read the manual. Please do that next time you're complaining about a product in multiple threads of a forum, and if you require support, it's also a good idea to contact the reseller. If that doesn't help, the vendor might also have answers.

It's 62.5Hz for PAL and 75Hz for NTSC. The Dell projector might not like any of them, so you should download the config tool, set the flickerfixer to 1.0 scan rate and get 50Hz for PAL and 60Hz for NTSC. If that doesn't help, try the finetuning with the number blank lines before/after Sync. Note that the latest config tool has different settings for PAL/NTSC/HighGFX, so you need to be in the right set of settings to see instant changes on the screen. I'm confident that you find these same hints when reading the readme file in the download-archive.

The manual didn't really say much on it except that the defaults are what you posted. I'm probably not going to be using the Indivision with a projector any time in the forseeable future, but if anybody else is trying it, I guess you'll need to play around with it until it works.
