This looks like a cross between GTA and Firepower!

Anyone here play this before? What do you think of it?

There's nothing Firepower in it. Seriously, this was the first time you heard about it? :)

Edit: After downloading the demo, ahhh yes. I vaguely remember it now. The splattered blood still reminds me of Firepower  :-)

Yes, but you will need a VERY fast Miggy setup to enjoy this game at any resolution better than the lowest, which is why I skipped it several years ago when all I had was an A1200 w/ similar specs. Even with the specs of my A2500 listed below, I can only play this in its lowest resolution with my Picasso. This game does a wonderful job of testing the speed of your system, so go check it out!

The Payback demo runs too slow to be playable on my A1200 030/50 AGA system, unless the screen is reduced to the size of a postage stamp. You really need a 040, 060 or PPC to really enjoy this game. It ran nicely on my mates 040 A1200 years ago.

If you really want to enjoy this game, a PPC equiped Amiga is a must have. Anything less is just a waste of your money.

It's a really nice GTA clone although the game maps are a bit small compared to GTA. I loved paying this game on my A4000/PPC and Pegasos II.

BTW, GTA & GTA 2 are available here (http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/) for free!

Well, did you ever hear that GTA was available for Amiga? Payback is the closest thing to an Amiga version of GTA.

Maybe I got confused. Wasn't GTA developed first on Amiga?

No, the first GTA was released in 1997 for the Playstation and Windows, more info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_(series)). At that time the Amiga was nothing more than a vague memory to most people, like it is now  ;-)

Hmmm. Maybe I was actually thinking about Payback the whole time I thought I was thinking about the original GTA. That could be it.

The M-rated/18-certificate gameplay of GTA IV is the pinnacle of an eleven-entry series that began life in 1996 on the Commodore Amiga. As the Amiga grew old and technologically infirm, GTA’s creator, DMA Design, switched the development of the original game to the PC. Grand Theft Auto eventually hit the PSone in 1998, where the mighty Official PlayStation Magazine praised it to the heavens as “one of the most original, innovative, technically impressive and controversial PlayStation releases ever

I bought Payback when it first came out (whenever that was, a scary number of years ago I expect) when I had a BlizzardPPC/BVision setup.  Ran well on that.

Ahh, you've got a mediator type board that plays nice with the Voodoo3 I see. At what resolution are you able to smoothly play this game with your setup?

It runs playable on my 060/60 with Voodoo3, but it really flies on my Pegasos. Great sliding around with Comp pro usb on it ;) It's good and versatile game... despite some small glitches.

Makes me chuckle to think that is the resolution of my phone :)  Too bad it does not have the horse power to run an Amiga emulator.

The Payback (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=872) game is scalable by design- requirements are:

Minimum requirements: 68020 CPU, 16 MB RAM, 20 MB HDD, CD-ROM and AGA chipset.
Recommended hardware: 68040 CPU, 16 MB RAM or higher, 45 MB HDD, 6x-speed CD-ROM, gfx card.

hrmmm.  Anyone else run into this?  I set the demo to run NTSC:Low-Res or PicassoIV:320x240 8-bit, then run it.  It see the "Loading" screen, and then it blanks out.  I see the Workbench flash up a couple of times, but other than that, all black.

I'm using my PIV on a Dell FP-2001 (20.1" LCD.)  It doesn't even want to detect the signal settings.

The game makes sounds when I hit buttons, so the system is still running.  I'm on a CS MKIII, 128MB, PIV on an A4000D.

But it can be more enjoyable on a 68060 system when it slows down (remember Matrix?) during the most busy moments. :-D
