Title: amithlon on laptops?
Post by: amigau on September 12, 2003, 01:33:14 AM
got a used Thinkpad to install Linux on (done, works fine, using RedHat 7.2) but then when I went to hopefully put Amithlon on it too, it locks up in the boot off the CD.  I haven't tried to get it on the HD yet but not optimistic about it given this lockup.

thoughts?

Try the newest kernels. Also please tell what ThinkPad you're installing it on - there are dozens of models. :-)

I didn't have any luck on  a T21 even with the newer kernel.

Can you even get Amithlon anymore? I always wanted to try it, but got put out by the hoopla surrounding it in months past.

Ok, most likely you won't have any luck with that machine using Bernie's kernels. :-(

The mailing list has reports from happy users who have been able to get Amithlon fully working on their laptops (including sound and LAN once the latest kernels and contribs are installed).

However, since laptops vary so much and the Amithlon kernel is quite customised, there's a good chance that a fair number won't work without modifucations.

I'm not sure anyone has collected an updated and accurate compatibility list following the latest contrib release.
