Title: UAE + Ixemul 49.17 and 7zip
Post by: arnljot on March 06, 2009, 06:43:31 PM
I've got

WinUAE 1.5.3
Clean OS3.1 install
Ixemul 49.17 (downloaded from sourceforge)
7zip 4.65a  (downloaded from aminet.net)

But I cannot get it installed. With version 48.0 of ixemul.library I get a requester with title "ixemul.library" and a button with the text "abort!!!".

Clicking it brings me into a seemingly eternal loop of "abort!!!" buttons to click.

Using version 49.17 of ixemul.library just hangs the emulated computer, and I cannot start new programs after that.

Does anyone know how to install and use 7zip?

Why didn't you use ixemul 50 from here...

Because from what I understand the v50.0 is for 060 only?

You have WinUAE. Doesn't it support 060?

060 emulation can be kinda slow.

48.3 for 000-040 http://megacz.back2roots.org/ (http://megacz.back2roots.org/)

Is 48.3 more stable than 49.17?

To me ? Yes, V49 is quite buggy and basically a small port of the morphos version. V48.3 should be alright.

Except for a few supervisor instructions, I believe the 68060 is instruction compatible to the 68040. These supervisor instructions should not occur in compiled code on the Amiga. They would cause a guru without using the exec.library supervisor() function call first. So while programs that fiddle with the CPU, MMU, or FPU directly will not work, the vast majority of programs compiled as 68060 should run fine on the 68040. 68060 optimized programs may run on the 68020 and 68030 but there may have been a few addressing modes added in the later processors that could rarely be used. What I'm saying is to try the v50 ixemul. The worst thing that can happen is it crashes. If that is the case then contact afa_bernd (ixemul v50 author) on this forum and report your problem. I bet he would compile a version for your specific CPU if necessary.

I'll try the v50.0 then perhaps.

v48.3 just hung, and crashed "neatly". "Suspend or reboot" dialogue when ctrl-c the process that's hung.

Ixemul.library v49.17 from sourceforge is known to be disfunctional and it should not be used by anyone.
 I don't know anything about v50.0, i haven't tried yet.
Version 48.3 is actually compiled by the same person who compiled the Aminet version of 7zip and it should work flawlessly. It works fine on my system! I don't know why it crashes on yours. Have you tried to increase the stack? Perhaps this is just what it needs to work.
