Title: Anybody know anything about "Space Vision" software?
Post by: quarkx on March 04, 2009, 12:26:33 AM
Hi, all,
Just got a big lot of floppies from E-bay and it has about 26 or so "space Visions" software. Of course it came with no documentation, so I was wondering if it had any "Installation disk or something. I am waiting for them to thaw right now so I am not going to put them in cold :)
The disk labeled "distant Suns 4.0" seems to be an install disk.

Also, What Amiga should this go on, My A1000, 500, 2000 or 3?

Distant Suns is an astronomy program, I believe. Sorry, I do not know anything about the other.

Tried to do a Google search, but nothing seems to be documented on this software.

If I remember right "Space Vision" is an extension to "Distant Suns". It includes more data, like shuttle missions, messier objects and other stuff.

Yes from the disks labeled "Skylab","Space Shuttle","mars Flyby", etc, it looks like an awesome package. I am going to try to load it up on the 3000, for it wants a hard drive install. Will do that tomorrow.

Sounds right.  Let us know if this Space Visions extension is good.  Back in the 80s, I remember Distant Suns as the state-of-the-art desktop planetarium software.  I spent much time with it and should still have my originals somewhere.  Never had space visions or a hard drive (20MB HDD cost significantly more than my A500 itself, if I recall!)  -Dave

quarkx: I would have guessed it was an expansion for Distant Suns, when I first saw the post... But I wasn't real certain, I didn't want to put my foot in my mouth... again. As for what miggy to install it to... well, it been some time since I played with DS, but iirc, install it to an Amiga with a faster/bigger HDD, and accel. Just my .02 .

I found the Distant Sun's Web site, Apparently they are still making this for Windows and now even the Iphony. There of course is NO mention of "Space Visions", So I don't know if I need DS 4.0 to run it or if it is part of these disks. Because I have my old A2000 apart right now, I will today attempt to install it in my 3000. I did e-mail the author for more information, If he gets back to me I will let everyone know.
Up Date:
I tried this on my 3000, Apparently it DOES need DS 4.0 to use it, it is an "Add on Pack". Now I need to track DS 4.0 down.
