LOL

The good old WAR, Amiga VS Atari.

But, this was a blow from a Atari Fanboy!  :madashell:

BTW Atari sucks  :-P

You realise of course this means war.

Anybody else here have an Atari, an Amiga and a video camera, and a vindictive nature? :)

 Only a 520ST and not even a 1040ST but a big mouth.

Man, you got courage!

That 520STe has a full 4MB RAM in the sockets, mind you :P

LOL! The guy is a total knob. "While the Atari is doing cool stuff, I think the Amiga has found its place"... lol   I'm sure the video was meant to revive the good old computer flame wars, but if this was for real and he's more impressed by such a weak demo, gosh. Oh well. Different strokes for goofy folks I say!

Ironic too that he was using a 1084s with his Atari. The original Atari monitors sucked and that's putting it nicely  :-)

Talk about silly, why would one retro geek bash another retro geek?  What's the point of flame wars over old technology that can be emulated on modern equipment faster than it ran on the original equipment?  I mean what's the point in 2009?

I did actually find an Atari ST in a skip.

Seems to work (power light comes on when it's plugged in and switched on) but I never tried any further than that.

But then why would i bother?

The skip is worth a lot more than the atari st  :-D

At least with the monochrome monitor your eyes wouldn't hurt because you could enjoy the "flicker free" refresh rate at 72hz. But otherwise Atari ST is/was crap.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about the grey scale monitor they had. That *was* quite the setup. I remember thinking back then: "ooohkay... hi-res b/w when colour should be reigning supreme". Wasn't it Paula Abdul that said: "take two steps forward, one step back"? lol

Only time I ever saw that monitor in use was in Arlington Heights, IL. We had an Amiga shop that sold Amiga exclusively for a while before they buckled and divided the store 50/50. IBM stuff of course. Anyway... get this: they used a frickin' AtariST as their POS ('point of sale' in this case) cash & wrap!! The store had nothing else to do with Atari hardware, didn't sell or service it. Just used it as their POS! lol

@Faerytale

Did anyone notice he still has a C-64C sitting on the table to the left of the atari? This looks like a weak attempt at comedy done on a boring afternoon. I bet he pulled the Ami out of the bin once the camera was off.

I most certainly did :P

I got a bit of inspiration when I had a couple of pints, unpacked my STs and loaded up one of the screens on the whattaheck demo.

I suppose I could have put it in the toilet instead?

And no, I don't think doomy would do such a thing. He'd more likely stick his dick in one of the holes of the parallel port connector...probably the +5v. That's probably the closest thing he could get to any loving from anyone or anything.

wow this {bleep}e is still going on in 09   I just picked up a 1040 STE from a local garage sale for the price of a cup of coffee...probably saved it from the dump  ..I guess Amigans have more heart :-D

Come on guys, the ST wasn't that bad.  Just for kicks I played the original Dungeon Master on a 520ST last year.  I also have a 1040STe.  It has 4mb of 30pin simms right on the m/b but unfortunately the blitter and other advances it made on the ST front broke a lot of software or just plain weren't taken advantage of afaik.  TOS is/was also laughable next to even 1.2/1.3 AmigaOS but I guess a lot of people found it useful.  I think it was supposed to be the successor OS for the C=128, which I guess GeOS most closely resembled. I think Digital Research was involved in it, at least originally.

Yes, DR was involved in the development of it, and did most of the work. GEM was also on the PC as well, but GEM on Atari was much better (And in my opinion, while not as flezible as Workbench 1.3, the interface was a lot cleaner).

I never noticed many problems with my STe in terms of running older software, but the advancements were definitely underutilized. I have to say, though, in recent years, the Atari ST scene is far more active than the OCS/ECS Amiga scene. (Well, okay, half of that is probably owed to BITS...which basically means nothing). As far as trackers go, in my experiences, Octalyser on the STe just blows away ProTracker, expecially if you like to play with the music in realtime. You can sort of DJ it, in a sense.

One thing's for sure, it's a hell of a lot easier to do a decent RAM upgrade on an ST/STe. Well, in my experience. And I don't mean a measly half meg. I've upped every ST I've owned to 4MB....but as for my A500...best I can do is 1.5 meg. Considering I want a running Amiga mostly for animations in DPaint III, 1.5 is not going to cut it. Having the entire OS in rom was also a nice tough as well, on the ST's part.

That Amiga in the trashcan is slowly being resurrected into a fully functional system. I just trashed the floppy in it and fitted a Chinon FZ-357 in place of it, and spent most of my time just making it still look like stock. The replacement keyboard is on it's way...now I just need as much internal fast RAM as possible, and a mouse.

That is definitely not Doomy's voice in that video. That voice is my own. I'm moving back to Washington state, so I might pay ol Doomy a visit, with a black sock and a roll of quarters. That guy got VERY....erm...impolite is an understatement. He got pretty insulting when I asked why he was trying to charge $200 for floppy drives. Despite what he claims wont ever work, my FZ-357 works pretty damn well in my Amiga...and it cost me one dollar.

After you've had your Youtube fun with your precious ST, you just flunk it on eBay, eh, IconoclaST? I guess that's the real irony in this topic ;-)!

Compare the ST visuals in that youtube vid with the following, which would run fine on a 1MB A500: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5kuYfTCGLg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5kuYfTCGLg)

I was gonna do a Video response this morning ... But unfortunatly my STe wouldn't fit in my rubbish bin (of my bedroom) and i couldnt be bothered to look for a larger bin .
