Hello All, well I got a new 400W PSU from newegg.com for my loaded 4000T, and it still won't boot with all drives/cards installed. The specs are 400W, 32A / 5V, 40A /12V. Surely this would be sufficient to power whatever I might have in my 4000T ??
OK, the 4000T has: CS Mk3 w/ 128MB RAM, DPS PAR card w/10GB HDD, DPS TBC 4, Video Toaster, Flyer, CD-ROM drive, CDR drive, 1GB system HDD, 4.5GB data drive. Any ideas before I pack it up and put in in my 'someday I'll fix this' pile ?
Thanks much, eveyone.

I vaguely remember your other thread, but have you tried to take one peripheral out at a time and try to diagnose that way? From a service guys perspective, there may be an out of spec component on one of those boards, taxing your power supply.
You're not blowing fuses in the power supply, are you? That could indicate a bad cap or diode somewhere.
And when you say: "1gb system"... what do you mean? What is that?
If this is entirely just a hardware issue, first thing I'd look into is the VT and that Flyer card. BUT... could there be a conflict or incompatibility Kickstart wise there? What does your user-startup and startup-sequence files look like? Is a patch missing? Do you have the latest libs (040/060) installed on your HD? Is the OS partition okay and recognised?
Does the system boot with a bunch of the cards removed?

I would check +5Volts with multimeter first.
IIRC, the new PSUs are designed to give more power at +12V lines because of newer PC CPU and GPU and +5 is much more important to you, I think

He means a 1GB system HDD (vs. the other drives for the toaster/flyer, I assume).
What happens when you attempt to boot only with the system drives attached?

@orb85750: Yep, that's what I meant, 1GB system Drive. :)
OK, If I disconnect the 4.5 GB data HDD, The PAR card's drive,
and 1 CD drive, the machine will boot up. The libs and WB
install should be fine, it's a clone from my '060 A1200T.
(I checked, and my 4000T and 1200T have exactly the same
040/060 libs) I haven't tried removing all cards yet...
tried pulling just the PAR and TBC, no change ....
I suppose I just have to strip it down (again) ....
Thanks

200W +5V=20A +12V=8A -12V=.3A
400W +5V=32A +12V=18A -12V=.5A
The AT 4000T only came with a 200W PS. The video Toaster 4000 only had a 150W PS. 400W will handle a LOT!
