Hello!
Tomorrow my "new" A600 will arrive! Yesterday i was out buying one 1gb CF card and a CF to IDE adapter.
Will i need to do anything with the card before i plug it in to the A600 and run the install-disketts? Like partions or something?
Will it manage the 1gb card?
Thanks for any advice!

No. The partitioning is done after the hard drive is physically installed in the Amiga and you have booted from the install disk. Just treat it like a normal hard drive.

Install using HDToolbox just as if you were fitting a new hard drive

Oh yes, quite easily :-)

One thing to add. IIRC there is a particular version of the A600 kickstart ROM which doesn't allow booting from hard drive. You might want to check what version you have (boot to Workbench, open a shell and type "version") and if you have the affected version you may want to consider upgrading your ROM chips. For reference:
- Kickstart Version 37.299: No support for ATA controller (must boot from floppy)
- Kickstart Version 37.300: Support for ATA controller (can boot from hard drives, but only supports up to 40MB)
- Kickstart Version 37.350 and up: Support for ATA controller (can boot from hard drives and supports up to 4GB)

Yes, if it has Kickstart >= 37.300. Otherwise, you need to upgrade.

I never could verify that 40 MB limit. I have 4 A600s with 37.300 and they all run fine with hard drives of 2GB and 4GB.

According to the Wikipedia page on the A600, "everything above this size [40MB] was a game of chance". Not entirely sure what they mean by that. Anyway, here is a link for Daniel in case he wants to upgrade his ROM chips:

I did check Amigakit but couldn't find A600 ROMs on their web site.

nice one, i didn't know about the version that only supported upto 40MB. that'd be a pain the in 4r5e to be landed with that one.
i just tried a (what i thought was blown) 3.1rom in my A600 and it works! currently got a 4Gb CF card in it. all happy as lazarus.

WOW! Thanks everyone for all your help, and fast replys!
Well then, i hope i have the correct kickversion :) But i have actually ordered 3.1 roms for both the 600 and the 500 :)
Have to sit tight until they arrive, if there is the wrong ones in there.
Could someone maybe post a image on the bay for the 2.5" harddrive in the 600? Im a bit affraid that my adapter have the connector angled wrong, and there will not be enough space for the IDE cable! But i hope that wont be a problem :)
