Hi All,
I posted this in another thread but I thought I should post as it's own thread.
At the risk of asking this question for the hundreth time, I am still a little confused about setting up a multisync with my A2000 and native ECS since I have never used a multisync monitor before. I have a NEC XV17+ but it only will sync down to 31khz. Since my 1080 monitors all died I will have to rely temporarily on a tv.
After I get the 23pin to 15 pin adapter, Do have to set it up to dblNTSC first and then shut the Amiga down to connect the multisync? Or do I connect the monitor first? If that is the case how will the monitor run since it does not sync down to 15khz?
It seems like it should be possible to do this if I can bridge the gap in a sense. Or is it impossible with out the ability to sync down to 15khz first? Thanks :-? :-?

Use your common sense. If the 31 Khz screen can't display 15 KHz modes, you can't use it to change to a suitable screenmode, can you?
-
Well that ends the confusion! I was looking at it in a backwards way, thinking there was a way to preset up the Amiga screen modes for for the a 31khz before actually connecting the monitor. I tend to over think it.

DoubleNTSC is 27.66KHz, your monitor might not show it.

One of the feature requests the OS 3.5+ developers got, if classic development had continued, was for some type of magic key press at reset to select a screen mode to boot into. I could have used this many, many times over the years.

DblXXX modes and Productivity are a pain on ECS - essentially it's the SuperHires output mode combined with increased horizontal scan rate. This means you can only run 2 or 4 colors AND the latter will saturate chipmem bandwidth (just like 16 colors in Hires).
Time to think about a graphics card - but then again it's only Zorro II, so a flicker fixer might be a better choice.

If you've got it currently working with your TV, why couldn't you use that picture to work with the Amiga to find a screen mode suitable for your monitor?
You can put out both images at once I believe. If you bought your adapter from AmigaKit, they include a nice page on how to work with a VGA monitor and the Amiga screenmodes.

Exactly, that's what you have to do.

if you have it put the storage/monitors/vga-only file in devs/monitors. it may get dblntsc to show on a 31 khz monitor. better still put the productivity monitor driver there if you have it in storage/monitors.
so use your tv to show pal/ntsc then run prefs/screenmode and select dblntsc or multisync and see if it works on your vga monitor

Thanks everyone for the tips :-)

This kind approach is is what I was searching for when I posted the question. So I wasn't off track just missing the exact steps. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks

z. Since my 1080 monitors all died I will have to rely temporarily on a tv.
Find an old Magnavox/Philips/TV tech, it will bring them back to live quite easily, because they use very common parts still avaible (early 80's tech).
Only the flyback is more trivia, but a replacement is avaible at HR-Diemens...

You should bite the bullet and at least get a Microway AGA, or Commodore SD/FF. That will give you 31MHz out. They usually sell for under $100.00.
Graphics cards show up on eBay - just make sure you buy from some one with 100% positive Feedback that has been there for a while!!
