Title: A4000 Expansion board diagnostic (Red Screen on boot)
Post by: dvvrue95 on February 17, 2009, 03:21:10 PM
Hi folks,

any one know if there is a explanation of the above, with specific reference to the Mnfctr/Product/Status fields. I have a problem with a 1/2length Zorro II Ram expansion card I have populated with 6M of Zips. The diagnostic screen displays :-

S/no. Bd/no. Mnfctr. Product Status Bd/size   Bd/Address
----------------------------------------------------------
 3      1     4626     23     Wkg    64k     $00E90000
 0      2     5768    136     Dfctv 4096k    $00200000
 0      3     5768    136     Dfctv 2048k    $00600000
 1      4     2092      6     Wkg    64k     $00EA0000

I have tried various jumper settings on the Ram board and even removed and changed around the Zips without much luck, so any help or ideas would be useful, Ian

A red screen. That's a Rom issue, reseat your Kickstart chips and try again. Why you'd get a Rom failure with that particular  card I don't know but that's what the red screen is telling you so reseat the chips anyway. The KS does a lot of checks including Ram as explained here:

What your Amiga is telling you (http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/selftest.html)

Hi Tripitalca,

thanks for feedback, but I may have confused you
(and myself) by referring to a red screen on bootup
what I was describing was the expansion board diagnostic screen being red - not just a blank red screen oops
sorry for confusion
Ian

The Amiga Hardware Database (http://amiga.resource.cx/) has manufacturer and product IDs on file for almost everything.

Does everything work without that RAM card installed? You might be going over your 8MB Zorro II limit if you have other Zorro II cards.

Is this (http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/search.pl?product=colsp&company=&amiga=&intf=&mid=&base=dec&pid=) your board?

I've tried entering the manufacturer amd product numbers into the Amiga database put it just says not found.

The only ZII boards I have installed are listed in first message, a couple of 64K boards and 6M on the "dfctv" board.

I think the nearest board shown in the  Amiga database
is the AlfaRam RA2-8M board with autoconfig ID 2092/8.

Can I verify if the autoconfig ID has worked correctly
and may be that is why card is showing up defective?

Yes there is a disable jumper on the card and if I set
this machine boots up and runs fine.

Also if I run Sysinfo I can see the card under the "boards" display with correct memory (6M) but it does not appear under the "memory" display.

Do you have the COLSP board I linked to?

Tell me what exactly is in your system. I see an XSurf, that COSLP thing, and an Alfa Data drive controller board. Is that correct?

Hi Matt,

You have my set up correct apart from the 8M ram card which I have only zips to populate to 6M.

As I state in my previous message I think the nearest "lookalike" memory card is the :-

ALFARAM RA2-8 AUTOCONFIG ID 2092/8
from the Amiga database photo and description.
