I've been thinking (and it's not even May) about the name for the new Amiga... Amigaone.. it just sounds really, really gay....
Amiga G4 would have got straight to the point and sounded nice and hard.
I don't know what everyone else thinks.
-
i changed the name of this thread ... i guess i don't have to explane why ...
-
Because it sounded gay? ;)
-
AmigaOne is a pretty daft sounding name to me anyway. Considering it's a new platform, surely it should be Amiga II and the classic line become AmigaOne collectively :-)
Amiga II G4/800 tells me all I need to know :-)
-
I believe the original idea behing calling it Amiga'One' had to do with how many CPU's it had in it. AmigaTwo would come with dual CPUs etc. At least that's what I remember hearing a long time ago.
-
I don't even think that! I think they all went to the JavaOne conference and got a little to giddy with the naming conventions.. And I have always thought the Amiga was a little "gay" in the first place with the rainbow check mark symbol.
And for the record before someone trashes me for not being P.C. I am a little "gay" myself so I am allowed to use the word without negative connotation. I am a good guy too so in this case "gay" means GOOD..
Also you might be right G4 Sounds Good and Hard.. Most gay folks appreciate good and hard with a lot of muscle. Not all folks who are "gay" are soft and effeminete. Some are hard and muscular and can kick butt when they need to. Also some wouldn't like being called weird just cause they are not like you..
I don't think anyone at the company making the AmigaOne would call their design could be called "soft" either...

So just refer to it as the "New Amiga" or "PPC Amiga" or "Amiga (G3/G4)" and leave off the One, Two stuff. :-D

It is gay - in the newer sense that is!
But is a blue butterfly any more masculine? :-o
-
Well, I personally don't really think it matters what its called, it could be called the 'Chimp Choker' for all I care.....in fact, I like that!
-
Cyberus,
Choking Chimps is a bit mean though? ;-P :-)
I like the sound of:
AMiGAPowerPC
with a model number like
A800G4
Does anyone have a "pet" name for their AMiGA?
-
Amigaone...
Amigaone...
Amigayone...
nah.. can't see anything gay about it...
A1 is FAAAAAAAAAR more gay. (the 'music' group)
But the Amigaone has nothing amiga related in it,
so I would rather call it Eyeone. (Eyetech)

Why yes, they do look awfully happy don't they?
I prefer the terminoligy "totally talentless crap" in the above context :-)
-
Dude you guys are all too funny.
First Karlos in the A2000HD thread with his 'Military Avatar"
and then
"Choking Chimps"
But:
>>Amigaone
>>Amigaone
>>Amigayone...
>>nah.. can't see anything gay about it...
That just takes the cake. I'm going to go get some tissue to clear away the tears.
:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
Sincerely,
AmigayGuy

Maybe they were inspired by that earlier PowerPC effort, the PIOS One (http://phinixi.com/tiki-index.php?page=Pios). ;-)

@Gary,
That's a cool avatar mate :-)

I dunno, I hope thats organic coffee, makes my kidney hurt (donated one to science).
Ok, how about GForce Amiga?
As an aside, Howzamacome QNX and Amiga both have a Browser named Voyager? hmmm..
-
I been watching his avatar for the last 5 minutes and it hasnt gone to the loo yet. Im impressed!
-
I always liked "PowerAmiga" - that's very straight! :-)
But it's "Pegasos" now, Okay? ;-)
-
Okay, from now on I will refer to all Amigas and Amiga products as "Butch" in order to properly identify them with the non-Sissy caricature of homosexuality.
e.g.
"Wow, can't wait to see ButchOS4 on a ButchOne!"
"You wouldn't believe the deal I just got on my Butch 1200!"
"What're the specs of your Butch?"
"My Butch is military grade"
:-D
-
"My Butch is military grade"
-
How about "The Gaymiga One"
or perhaps just "The Gay One" or "Gay One" for
short:P
:-D

I rarely do this, but...
Rats, forgot I was on Amithlon/IBrowse Demo..
rotfl..roftl..roftl...;)

Retry with the Gates Crate....

AmigaOne is a cash-in on a very dated trend. PSOne is obsolete. MediaOne is gone. You're either a leader or a follower.
At least they didn't call it the iMiga.
They should call it something new every time they redesign the mainboard. I still cringe whenever I hear people try to describe the PowerMac G3 towers, and they have to call them either "Beige" or "Blue and White". Sure, let's have a whole lineup of computers, over a couple years, all called the same thing. I feel the same way about AmigaOne and AmigaOne XE.
I also think the whole OS should have been renamed to Workbench. AmigaOS just sounds so... difficult.

Hey, I hope I could last at least 5 minutes. Well, I'm taking small sips anyway. :-)

Hmm, not organic that I know of. Well, I guess I won't be asking you for a transplant if it comes to that. ;-)

PalmOne!

Thing is, they're still basically the same thing under the hood. The XE just adds the MegArray socket, and the 'badge letters' let you tell them apart.
Apple, in turn, did keep calling every single tower the "Power Mac" without any proper designation.
I get the impression Eyetech wants to run the 'brand' ("AmigaOne," vs. "Amiga") to promote their position as the original Amiga licensee. Whether anyone else *will* ever become a licensee -- and if they did, would want to call *their* product 'AmigaOne' when they can pick something else and differentiate from Eyetech -- seems pretty far off, these days.
There's certainly some room to stretch the brand: "AmigaOne G5," and from there, "AmigaOne G5-SE," "AmigaOne G5-XE," maybe "AmigaOne G5-ME" for a uATX board... Doesn't sound too awful. Eventually, of course, even Honda has to sell something other than a Civic.
I also think the whole OS should have been renamed to Workbench. AmigaOS just sounds so... difficult.
Alone, 'Workbench' doesn't have much ring to it. "Amiga Workbench 4.0" sounds better -- along the lines of Apple's "System" marketing -- but given the state of the market, having a box labeled "OS" on the shelf makes it a little more obvious that there *is* an OS. Note that Apple's done the exact same thing with that tenth release of theirs...

What's wrong with "Teron", or whatevever else the original name of future stuff running AmigaOS could be? There's no point in pretending that there will be a "new Amiga" some day, now that AmigaOS at long last has left the "Amiga hardware" concept behind on the scrap heap of computing history.

Hmm, not organic that I know of.
I never understood that "organic coffee" thing. Where can I buy coffee that contains no carbon compounds? Or coffee that doesn't come from living plants?
Same thing with "ecologic" coffee. There are coffee plants that aren't interdependent on other organisms and their environment?
;)

Kind of like 'Chemical Free' food! ;-)
or 'Chemical Free' cleaning products! Hey what am I getting with this product? A vacum?? :-o

It's better than nothing, isn't it? :-P
-
It's better than nothing, isn't it?
It remindes me of a physics/electronics class I took a couple of years ago.
The teacher was explaining CRT's and he was pointing out the little bulb bit which, if you snap it would "let the vacum out". I think he said it to see if we were awake. ;-)
-
Which in turn reminds me of a chemistry class where we were studying some reaction, and the teacher asked , "And we encounter this acid in nature, it's produced by ants, it's called......" (trying to elicit an answer)
And a guy puts his hand up proudly and says "Antacid"
-
 Sounds like my old secondary school

pegasos sounds more lame... a pega that does a SOS ..
go figure :)
they should name it pegone , that would make it more beliveable :)
or maybe pegasus ? so we can ride it into the sunrise?
amigaone is a nice name , much better than wAlKER etc :) ..or the hoover ...or the ...u know what :)
-
Regardless of my opinions, I think the Pegasos is a nice name for their hardware.
-
I think Pegasos is a stupid name, it just seems unnatural, like they have taken the word Pegasus and butchered it
-
Perhaps its an SOS call from some poor b*gger getting pegg...Er, better stop there :-D

Seehund wrote:

Nothing, other than that it was already taken for the unmodified (or undongled, if you will), preexisting Mai board.
Now, let it be said that I agree with 'organic' farming in principle -- though it's a shame the same people blockade *all* bioengineering as 'frankenfood.' (Again, the old "golden rice" problem.) But here's one of the worst ones you'll ever see, out of an ad in this week's New York Times:
"ORGANIC" BEEF AND "100% ORGANIC" BEEF ARE NOT THE SAME ANIMAL.
Unlike previous USDA organic guidelines, the new USDA certification "100% Organic" requires that the food is totally free of inorganic content. Like our great-tasting Davis Mountains 100% Organic Beef. Order some today.
Guess it's not a healthy source of iron...
(I'm less scared by the ad than by the USDA's inability to conjure a better label.)

Isn't 'Pegasos' spelling based on a certain language, like German? Anyone from Europe should know this.
Pegasos is a decent name, its a very unique name and vert apt for a brand new product. Shame about the Pegasos 1, Pegasos 2, Pegaos 3... naming convention though (I appear to be the only one who doesn't like this hehe).
'AmigaOne' is an OK name, shame its not a real Amiga inside, with custom designed for realtime multimedia graphics & audio chipset and a POSIX compliant realtime multitasking operating system.

COMPUTERS ARE NOT ORGANIC!
BUT, they can be downright . . . UGLY!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
@SONG: All Computer Things Dull and Ugly
All computer things dull and ugly,
All computers short and squat,
All computers rude and nasty,
The engineers made the lot.
Each little PC that is poisonous,
Each little MAC that stings your hand,
The engineer made their brutish GUI,
He made their horrid mouse' and....
All computer things sick and cancerous,
All computers great and small,
All computers foul and dangerous,
The engineers made them all.
Each nasty little AT,
Each beastly horrible 386,
Who made the spikey Pentium,
Who made the next one, Those dicks.
All computer things scabbed and ulcerous,
All computers both great and small,
Putrid, foul and gangrenous Pentiums,
The engineers made them all.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
So, just remember your AmigaOne is NOT
a poisonous PC, or a stinging Macintosh!
-
"All computers foul and dangerous,
########## has owned them all" ;-)

So does that mean that Peter Mandelson is a Chimp Choker? :-D
