Hello!
What is the latest AmigaOS version that i can run on a stock A500 with mem-expansion?
-
if you have kickstart <= 1.3 => workbench 1.3
if you have kickstart <= 2.04 => workbench 2.1.
PS : I don't think any stock A500 shipped with kickstart 3.1. If you have 3.1 ROM you can use workbench 3.1 of course. Actually you can run wb 3.1 with 2.04 kickstart too, but you have to install it somewhere else in a kick 3.1 environment, then connect the HDD to the 2.04 machine.
-
Thank you very much for the answer!
So i can really run the 3.1 on a stock 500? Just that i need those kickstart-roms?
I see that amigakit has 3.1roms, but they say its just for the 1200.. Do you know where i can get hold of these chips?
-
Im pretty sure 3.1 roms were released for the A500 , dont know wherre to get them though.
And then there is nothing stopping you running 3.1 (unless there is some 020 code in there)
-
there's no 020 code in 3.1, you can run it (I run it) on a stock A500/A600. You need the 3.1 ROMs. Amigakit or Vesalia should have 3.1 ROMs for A500/600/2000. Failing that, check ebay.
-
You are fast to answer! :)
Very nice to know that it works for the 600 too.
I bought one 600HD through a local auction-site here in sweden,, its amazing how cheap they go for, these beutiful machines!
Hope that i can find the roms though!
-
Was trying to look on amigakit for him, but site seems to be down for me , what about anyone else ?
-
maybe i destroyed it.. was pressing "amiga roms"link on their site, then it went down ^^
-
now its up and running,, still cant find the roms!
Maybe im blind :S
-
GGS-Data had them listed but out of stock
Vesalia seems to have them though

@daniel_swe: i see you're a swede, you can check out http://safir.amigaos.se
@Revener: Roky rulez indeed!
And i was going to mention that vesalia probably have a500 roms but i was to slow.

Just be aware that many old games are incompatible with kickstart versions higher than 1.3, so if you intend to run them you shouldn't upgrade.
-
Thats good info!
The favorites i know that i want to run right now is
Hole in one
Wings of Fury
Pinball dreams (ofcourse)
Lotus
Lemmings
Are they to old?

They will probably all run best with 1.3.
-
You can ofcourse have a kickstart-switcher and switch between 3.1 and 1.3. There are plenty of them around, some even quite new.

Thats just too Smart! :)
Does amigakit have one of these babys?
-
@daniel_swe
The question really is *why* do you want to upgrade?
If you are just going to stick to a stock Amiga 500, I don't really see a point in upgrading to anything beyound Kickstart 1.3. If you are about to upgrade with faster CPU and harddrive, then it's a whole different story.
-
Well, i really cant give you a reason at all..
But why not?
-
@daniel_swe
As already said, if you are just going to be using floppy disks, you will be paying money for making your machine less compatible with the games you want to play.
In my head it doesn't make sense, but it's your money.

Because some (many?) old games won't work then.
Better just get an A1200 too. (for max. compatibility :-D)
-
Yes but then again, there are those circuts that allow you to have multiple kickstart roms..
And maybe in the future i will be using a harddrive, atleast with the A600HD that will arrive next week..
Just want to try it out to see for my self..
