has anyone tryed the above cards on A1200?
if successful what adaptor was used?
-
No matter what I tried, I couldn't get my A1200 to recognize my CF card thru a PCMCIA->CF adapter but SD cards on a PCMCIA-SD adapter showed up fine(Sandisk I believe).
The only micro-sd I have is a 2g Kingston and as far as I can remember that one didn't work.....

CF cards works in PCMCIA or on the IDE interface via a adaptor.
im need to know is there a problem with SD & micro SD adaptors via the PCMCIA slot on A1200.

Like I said....
I never could get a CF card to work in mine... What type do you have? I sure wish I could as I have an A-DATA 4gb CF that I would love to be able to use.
My 1gb Sandisk SD card works great in the PCMCIA on my A1200 but not my Micro-SD. Your mileage may vary..........

what make/model is your adaptor SD>PCMCIA? i need to transfer data from micro SD to A1200.

Get yourself one of these (http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.ide-cf%20adapter).
I have tried:
This (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10309)
and
this (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1698)
They work nicely with 512 MB cards.
The SD adapter was tested with a MMC card.
However
You will need the HDtoolbox from os 3.9...
HDtoolbox from WB3.1 installdisk will provide an "unit is not a disk" error. Had though no problem prepping and formatting using FFS and hdtoolbox from 3.9
If you want a way of transferring data to and from your Amiga.
Get yourself a SCSI controller and a scsi zip for the amiga.
And a IDE zip for your pc.
IMHO it is the best way (without network) to transfer data to and from your amiga

I have used 2GB and smaller SanDisk SD cards with a Transcend 5-in-1 adapter. I have also used my 4GB M2 with the same adapter. Easy peasy.
-
are any of the devices PCMCIA..it needs to be PCMCIA.
-
@ delshay
No they are IDE-CF adapters.
Why do they need to be PCMCIA devices?
-
I've been using this (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10891) PCMCIA SD-card reader on both my A600 and A1200, and it has worked like a charm. And my micro-SD cards came with an SD-adapter, so they work fine too.
-
I'll join in by confirming that this one (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10310) works fine in my A600 with a 1GB Kingston CF card.

Seriously thinking of reviving my A1200 with a Micro Card as Harddrive.
However, witch is the most stable/best? The CF card solution or the SD card? Heard people having problems that data went corrupt on certain CF Cards. Witch are best of CF and SD? And what brand?
Also like the PCMCIA memorycard reader thing to transfer stuff from PC to Amiga. Thought about doing a network thing between the PC and Amiga, but I guess that will be a hassle.
Or does anyone have good experience with that? Is it easy, or does it take alot of tweaking on both the Amiga and in Windoz?

MICRO-SD card as a hardrive works ok i have OS4 loaded on this type of card but it`s not as fast as a COMPACTFLASH.

The worst CF card is a A-data card. It is slow and unstable. The best CF cards I used are Kingston and San disks as hard drive.
The PCMCIA card readers I used are from SAN Disk. I just bought another one.
When I use to transfer files, I use the Sandisk Ultra II or III of 2 GB. I cannot get a 4 GNb CF card working with CFD driver.
-
Personally I use a CF to IDE adaptor in both my a600 and a1200. To trnasfer files to and form amiga <-> pc I just use WinUAE. It works perfectly.
In my A600 I use a 1 gig CF card and in the 1200 I use a 4 gig one...

Confirming that... I dont have a 2GB, but a 1GB works fine. 4 must max out the drivers though.

So have we stated that using a CF to IDE is better than SD to IDE?
Or does it not matter? Both work just as good.
So This:
(http://www1.dealextreme.com/productimages/sku_10309_1.jpg) (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10309)
is just as good as

SD maxes at 6MB/s write, I suppose that is fast enough for IDE though.
-
SD is slower than CF, even on a humble A600! Believe me, I tested out. But the device + a few micro SD cards are obscenely cheaper than 2Gb (and over) CF cards.
Shame the design of the device is not suitable to reach the SD from outside the Amiga.
On a PCMCIA reader (the same 5-in-1 people have here) micro-SD cards freezes both my PCMCIA Amigas (600 & 1200). I use a 128Mb Memory Stick or an old 64Mb CF for transfers (or wireless Ethernet).

The only micro-sd I have is a 2g Kingston and as far as I can remember that one didn't work.....
See this link:

"Significantly, Kingston is revealed as simply a vendor that re-marks other people’s chips in its own packaging [clarification]."

@murple:
The A-data 4 GB doesn't work on PCMCIA adapter or IDE to CF Adapter. The San disk 4 GB Ultra II works in both. It is possible to use a bigger card, but they are very expansive.

I use a an SD card, SDHC Class 6 to be precise of 32GB capacity that i bought in ebay like 3-4 months ago at $US 28 including shipping. Also bought the cheapest ide to SDHC adapter at about less than $US 10.
I use an A1200 with a standart buffered ide interface (no extra speedup), and it works nicely with the SDHC card and its adapter.
You can even place it instead of the internal floppy on a desktop A1200 and it will fit nicely.
There are also two nice alternatives on that aproach that i find cool:
1-There is an expensive, but otherwise really cool ide multi card reader. It is the Addonics Digidrive, that can be placed in a standart 5.25" tower bay.
2-There is like a $US 12 pc bracket ide to SDHC adapter for those with a tower, that want to change SDHC cards thru the back of their case.
-
I use the mentioned SD card reader (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23720) in my PCMCIA port along with a CF->IDE adapter internally, and it's the most convenient setup I've had for a long time. I rarely ever use the disk drive for anything anymore. The SD card is plug and play, too, so it works just like popping in a diskette.

Thanks for the feedback. Think Im gonna go for the CF IDE thing internally in the A1200, and also get the PCMCIA 5in1.
Got a bunch of SD cards from earlier Digital Cameras, but no CF cards, so that was the reason for asking what was best for use as "main" HD. Feel most people state that CF is best.
Next up is getting a cheap PCMCIA network card. Connecting the A1200 to the windoz box.
I guess the PCMCIA 5in1 thing will get somewhat redundant if I get the network thing to function.
But it will probably be a nice thing to have until/IF I even get the network going (I have my doubts :D)

I have http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1698 and it works like a charm...
i use an apacer 1gb mmc card.
It was though a bit tricky to set up.
Hdtoolbox from wb3.0/3.1 was not able to see the drive.
However hdtoolbox from os 3.9 was. And when it was set up and formatted it work very well... even on wb 3.1...
And the best part, it is dirt cheap from dealextreme.
They also have several CF-IDE adapters... even more dirt cheap.
I have http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2720 and it works great to...

I've got the same adapter and I'd like to use on my A1200, but... I don't remember how A1200 reads it!
I tried with prepcard bud it says the card is write protect.
How A1200 reads the memory cards through pcmcia?
