Title: A500 power light goes out despite still being switched on
Post by: gurthuk on February 04, 2009, 08:27:41 PM
Just noticed that my new A500 power LED turns off completely when running some games. The floppy LED is fine and the power LED works as it's on permanently when it's sitting on the boot screen waiting for a disk to be inserted.

Also it has red power LED while my old one was green; green power and green floppy.

It will turn off with the audio filter.

ah think I've just found out why:

Early versions of the A500 had a red power LED and a green floppy drive LED, whenever the audio filters were activated the power LED would switch off. This was later changed to a green power LED and amber floppy LED and again the power LED would be switched off whenever the audio filters were activated. In hind-sight this was probably not considered a sensible indication of the audio filters because the machine could appear to be switched off, even though it wasn't, so Commodore finally changed it so that the power LED was only dimmed when the audio filters were activated and this remained with the A500+.

Mines a Revision 5 according to the motherboard although a yellow sticker on top reads A500   P

Not sure if the P is close enough on the sticker to denote  an A500+.

Can I prevent the LED from switching off?
