Hyperion release OS 4.1 for the Pegasos.
Surprising move. But I am not too temped to pace an order, I don't see any benefit in running OS 4.1 on my Pegasos. But others my do, so they have the option to do so.
Kid of funny anyway, if you consider all tat FUD of the history.

interesting news, i wonder how many Pegasos systems there are out there?
-
Man, this is seriously disturbing me. Why do these guys keep insisting on releasing the OS for hard to find/get hardware or out dated hardware? Why not release it for say - ANY G4 enabled MAC?!?!. User base would skyrocket. There are plenty of G4 Macs.
Sorry, just venting a bit. This is a good sign I suppose. At least they're working on the OS and trying to produce for more users, unlike the Amiga Inc spacemen. ( I say that, because they're OUT THERE ! )
Anyhow, here's hoping that they will make an OS for the Mac eventually.
:-D
-
Wow, there still is room for surprises in AMIGA-land. Maybe that Mac Mini port will be finished after all..?!
-
Wa? Did hell freeze over somewhere?
Can we all just get along now?
A1260 is going to commit suicide when he reads this news. :-D
-
:pint: :pint: :pint:
@spihunter: LOL
-
Great news! :-D
Why didnt I purchase a Pegasos 2 when I could
-
A dual booting Pegasos would be lush! :-)

I'm guessing that having access to full hardware documentation for the Pegasos II made a faster port.
Anyhow, here's hoping that they will make an OS for the Mac eventually.
:-D
I hope so too. Actually, I hope that they go for a PowerBook model since I would like an Amiga laptop. The Openfirmware bootloader for the Pegasos II port would probably come in handy.

hehehe... no suicide for me... but suicide for morphos!
this is great news more hw for aos4.1!!
-
Nice move. I will order a copy.
-
That would be great news if I had a pegasos, still good that OS4 is being ported to another system.
-
Well, it's about time! Now if they'd just make an x86 port......
-
Was not expecting this! It's a tempting purchase - dual boot MorphOS/OS4 on my Peg and sell the A1...
This news doesn't do much to resolve the hardware shortage, but I imagine it will encourage more parallel development of programs for both OSes...

 :bump:

A suicide for morphos? and this make you happy?
Well at least a release on the amiga world without rumours and hype.

That's quite cool! I wonder if Genesi will start producing the board again. I really think that 2009 is going to make a great year. Here's to the Ox!
-
I for one am really pleased about this! I just bought a Peg2 G4 only the week before last. Looks like by some fluke my timeing couldn't have been better!
I wonder if my catweasel mk4 will work in the peg under os4.1?

Very unlikely due to RoHS. It *could* be done, but it would be very expensive. A new board around the 8610 is more likely (but also nothing I'd currently bet on).
I think after HYperion showed now that the license bull is just bull, nothing prevents them to do a Mac port. Minis and such are out there en mass. My Mini's waiting for a proper OS, too. Most likely that will be MorphOS, but if OS 4.1 comes for the Mini earlier than MorphOS comes, then I might get tempted.
So: go Hyperion, go MorphOS-Team - hurry up to finish your ports! The one who comes first has a warranted sale (the MorphOS-Team has a warranted sale anyway I guess ;-)).

:ponder:
The only downside I can see is there won't be anyone left to fight with.
;-)
Seriously, I'm delighted to see this news. That blue boing ball looks really cool.

Maybe they are even working on it. Not would surprise me after seeing them release it for Pegasos. They seem to keep quiet about things happening behind the scenes.

Good news :-D
-
Is it possible to run 4.1 on efika as well?
-
@pyrre
No (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=28062&forum=33&start=20&viewmode=flat&order=0#475713).

I hope they reconsider the mac port (mini and laptop, at least) now...
Great news, anyway... congratulations to Hyperion.

This is good news, anyone want to buy my Sam?
Gaz
-
This means that Morphos users will have a golden opportunity to switch to AMIGA OS..
This is great. Kudos to Hyperion for re-uniting the Amiga scene!

I would :-D
But would not know how to pay you :-(
-
no reason to put this up as news (meant both seriously and sarcastically)

I must be missing something. Why release OS4.x for yet another motherboard that can't even be purchased used any more? I just don't get it unless it is part of a bigger plan of some sort. Rogue has already said more than once that the documentation needed to finish the OS4 port to PPC Macs isn't available. That says to me that OS4 won't ever happen for PPC Macs.
So again our only option for hardware to run OS4 is a low end $600.00+ Sam board? Please enlighten me.
Thanks,
-Jeff

Surprising indeed.
Is there a free demo you could download somewhere, like you can with MorphOS? I probably won't be buying this (I see no point) but it would be interesting to at least try it out and see how it compares to MorphOS...
-
@takemehomegrandma
LOL! you never cease to amaze me!! :-)
Your way of trolling, is slowly derailing in some sort of "art".
You would deserve a prize
-
Hey man..you dont need to compare it...OS4.1 is better than MOS 2 :-D :-D :-D
-
WTF?! Where was the trolling? Was it that I was requesting a demo, or that I stated that I probably won't be buying OS4 but would like to test it?
-

In what way?
Anyway, I still think a demo would be a good idea! :-)
-
..shee......official Moana release coming VERY soon...G4's & mini's world wide will rejoice...
-
@takemehomegrandma
"In what way?"
I think he clearly said that this: "" way.
 Or perhaps he meant that MOS is too hasty while booting. ;-)
@all
Surely flamewars can be left behind?
I'm happy with recents developments. Planning to switch my MacMini to Peg2 & hoping to get 2.5" HDD for my SAM verysoonnow (tm). And my boing ball was a little bit blue allready.
(btw. blue balls look terrible, not to mention the ache afterwards )waytogetblueballs (http://img.mtv3.fi/mn_kuvat/mtv3/helmi/1maanantai/liikunta/uinti/509914.jpg)

Wow, now Hyperion have increased their userbase by over two hundred...!
(users, not percent )
-
I'm currently upgrading my G4 powered PowerMac 9500 with some RAM and hopefully I can find a cheap Radeon card for it soon - it'd be totally awesome if it could run OS4 one day...
-

You mean by dozen? Doubt many will spend money on OS4 who have already invested to rather expensive MOS2.
-
Is it upgraded to play games like WipeOut2097 ?
MOS can since its beging, but i can't with OS4.1 on my A1Se...

Strange, I just tried it on my A1-XE, and it worked fine. Have you downloaded and installed warposemu (http://os4depot.net/share/library/misc/warposemu.lha)? Make sure that you follow the instructions regarding WipeOut2097.

Hum, i've installed a version but it might be old than this one, I can see that this one was made in November...
I'll give it a try when I will be able to transfert (USB doesn't work and my powerlan adapter burnt...).
