Interesting... And possible hopeful!
How did a guy like this (read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentti_Kouri) get involved with the Amiga? Anyone know the back story? Tell us...

Does that mean he died?
Do you have a link?

Simple answer: $$$$ :-(
PZ.

In Swedish (http://svenska.yle.fi/nyheter/artikel.php?id=149315).
-
Ah, that's Fin, not Swede ;-)

the death can be cheerful sometimes:)
fingers: i guess thats swedish after all. as in url: svenska. here it is in finnish:

What do I say...if my Finnish spelling was any good I'd call myself a dumb/stupid {bleep}...but I only know how to say it...but I'll try call myself a duhmah baskah/t anyway...lol! :-)

No a death is never a good thing for the people , the friends and family of that person.
There is something very very very wrong with you people
-
It's a site in Finland in the Swedish language (the Svenska give it away).
Through Google Translate (http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsvenska.yle.fi%2Fnyheter%2Fartikel.php%3Fid%3D149315&sl=sv&tl=en&history_state0=).
-
Well.. Shady dealing. Lots of coverage in the press when he did his infamous "Kouri deals" in Finland back in the 80s.
Might be hard to be too sympathetic.
-
I guess Amiga will be sold to new investors soon.
-
You know what I think would be best?
If MS or Apple purchased it just for the kill & abandoned everything into the public domain to ensure the Amiga brand never competed with them again.
Why would that be good? Community control (or lack thereof), that's why :-)
PZ.
-
Apple and MS can pretty much sit back and do nothing and the Amiga brand will never compete with them again.
-
Kouri is dead?! Condolences to his family.
-
My signature has never been more on-the-point

Rest in Peace.

Ahh...a sane person! I love the Amiga as much as anyone, but, imho, to think the brand would ever be able to compete again is pure insanity.
It's difficult enough to have two competing main platforms. Apple has been able to grow recently due to the problems with Windows that never seem to get fixed, and the world's love of everything iPod.
Now, condolences to the Kouri family but I have NO clue who the heck he was. Time for a visit to Wiki...

shouldn't this be a news item? or is it better hidden as a forum post because people will be jerks about it?

@Fingers:
Right... but there are certainly much better opportunities for investment than the Amiga market. So again, why would someone who ( presumably ) wanted to make a lot of money be involved with Amigas????
Was he perhaps in from the Commodite days? Anyone know?
-
My condolences to his family and friends.
It's way too early to die at that age!

Finland is a dual language country, with two official languages, Finnish and Swedish.
(Off Topic)
Speaking of that; this year it's actually a kind of "anniversary"; it's now 200 years that Sweden lost its eastern part (Finland, that until then had been Swedish for 600 years) to Russia as part of a Peace Treaty to end the war 1808-1809. Sweden has been neutral and hasn't been in war since then. Finland proclaimed independence 6 Dec 1917. This 200 year anniversary is highlighted in various ways, among other things there will be a new Swedish 1 SEK coin (http://www.svt.se/content/1/c8/01/39/08/19/enkronaphilip_380.jpg) with a special backside, which has the text "the wonderful fairytale about a country at the other side of the ocean", "Sverige 1809 * 1KR * 2009 Finland". This Swedish coin will be made in Finland.

Did the Swede types win a war those hundreds of years ago in order to own the Finn type's lands or was it like there was soooo much cold mountains in the way that over time a new language developed in the east because people just didn't really want to go over there to see what was going on?
-
According to a legend Swedish king Erik the Holy made the first crusade to southern Finland in 1155. So I guess you could say Swedes won a war. Of course, there really weren't any Swedes or Finns at the time. Finns were just a bunch of diffirent tribes and Swedes were only little more organized.
Swedish is a germanic language and Finnish is a fenno-ugric language. So there is no relation between the languages. Little example.
English:Welcome to Amiga.org
Finnish:Tervetuloa Amiga.org:iin
Swedish:Välkommen till Amiga.org

It's always a sad thing for family and friends when someone die.

Speaking of shady deals, was he the one responsible for offering $10Million for an Amiga-named sport stadium, then backing out?

Since Bill was claiming at the time to be acting President in addition to his role as VP and Pentti is believed to have been Chairman it would stand to reason he had approved the deal in some form. Later it was said that some investor traveling in Europe was unreachable (or at least not easily reachable) that they needed to get approval from late in the game near the deal deadline. But some of the speculation I think was more that that might have been Ryszard Krauze than Pentti as Ryzsard was I believe having some legal issues back in Poland around that time (which have since been resolved).

:-( My heart-felt condolences to Mr. Kouri's family. That's too young an age to pass on.
-And it is shameful and disappointing, though not surprising, that Amiga, Inc.'s detractors have taken this as an opportunity to bash Bill McEwen and those who believed in him.
I'd venture to opine that Mr. Kouri was far from misguided by Bill McEwen regarding Amiga, Inc. and their plans and situation. To the contrary, I'd say he knew more about such things than what has been shared on Internet message boards.

This is an Amiga message board. I don't think that anyone is mocking Kouri or his family. Rather, this board is a venue for gaining a better understanding of all aspect of Amiga -- past, present, & future -- the good and the bad.
Using your words, "shameful and disappointing," I think they may be more applicable toward describing AI's procurement of a once cutting edge trademark and using it to market tip calculators for Windows mobile devices.

C'mon, that's not cool. This guy just passed away. How would you feel if a family member of his read your post? Plus, you have just voided my earlier comment about nobody on this board mocking him.

it is a life. i may be old fashioned but I tend to respect it. he was just a business man, good or bad. RIP, and especially condolences to his family.

@Quixote:
Very appropriate nickname, based on your comments... :-) Still "tilting at windmills", I guess, huh?
So, anyone know more about this guy's involvement with the Amiga? There's certainly little logic in investing in Amiga anything when there were so many better investments to be made. What drove this guy to the Amiga grounds? Was he once a user? Or did he simply know Bill McEwen?
-
DiscreetFX to rescue! They made an offer to AInc earlier, so now could be that time again :)
-
That would be excellent news! Discreet's Bill is cool, unlike the other Bill.

> Reviving Amiga
It will be very difficult to revive Amiga in present economic crisis.
Perhaps in 2011 or later, people will start to buy Computers and gadgets again. Many tech companies will not survive the global economic crisis, including NORTEL (Canada). Some analyst predicted other tech companies may not survive such as AMD, Palm, Sun, Freescale etc.
The Japanese IC companies also had financial problems:
