...or sold off to some loser? I won't provide a link, as I don't want to have people pissed off when they click it. I did find that us.aminet.net still works as expected.
All I'm going to say here is that when I typed the www one in last (this very evening) I didn't get what I expected, and there were lots of pop-up windows.
-
Worked fine for me just now.
Using IBrowse 2.3.
No pop-ups. Huh?
-
@Billsey, www.aminet.net seems fine from my end also, no popups and nothing to get pissed about. Maybe your browser/systems been hijacked ?
-
I get forwarded to here (http://www.aminet.org).
-
Hmm... Very strange, :-? Doesn't do that to me from here. Maybe some kinda bug in your browser ? I don't know whats up with that , I hope that someone can help you sort it out though.
:-)
-
gotta love forced popups in mass numbers
-
aminet.net works fine for me. aminet.org is trash.
I'm using opera brower with popups blocked so I didn't see the rest of the trash you mentioned when I went to aminet.org, just the main ad page.

@Billsey
www.aminet.net works fine for me, as well. Perhaps your ISP is having DNS probs?
-
OK,
Additional testing puts it down to Safari, the browser for OSX, because Internet Explorer5 and Netscape Navigator4.7 don't do it here either.
-
It's aminet.net (http://www.aminet.net) not aminet.org (http://www.aminet.org) :-)
-
Hi Billsey, I'm glad to hear its nothing major, still it's kinda strange why it would do that. :-?
At least now you can get to Aminet !
I guess you could try to report it to the Safari people and see if they maybe know whats up with it ? but you know how it is tryin to get real answers from some outfits. :-?
Anyways... Happy Surfing ! :-)
-
Hi tintin, Ya we know, he was typing .net in his browser but it would send him to .org . Its something to do with his browser.
Cheers :-)

I got to a feedback page and entered the following post to them:
After testing with Safari, Internet Explorer5, and Netscape Communicator4.7, I have concluded that there is some kind of bug in Safari 1.0.
Whenever I try to go to www.aminet.net with Safari, I get redirected to www.aminet.org instead. The two sites are completely different than each other, and Explorer and Navigator do not behave in this manner when going to this website, www.aminet.net.
Other users have also tried going to www.aminet.net and they have not been redirected either.
I am using Safari 1.0 on OSX 10.2.6; Mac G4 at 400MHz with 576 megabytes of RAM.
Then got a noticed about how support feedback should be sent to their support forums, which then got me into a tangled web of trying to log in to that. I never did figure out my ID and password to do that. :-x
-
Okay, just making sure it wasn't some simple typing mistake 8-)
-
@ Billsey
Ya , some companys make it so fun when trying to deal with them , its like they think if they make it hard enough most people won't even bother.
I'd say don't give up just yet and try a bit more before you give up in desperation. Then if you do get some kind of explaination at least you'll know whats up with it.
Chow fer now T. :-)
-
It works fine from here too - on Safari 1.0
-
Maybe the DNS lookup table in safari has been modified so aminet.net goes to aminet.org?
Either that or its your ISP being dumb.
-
yeah happens to me alot, i forget the address :)
amiga.net , annlu.org ,aminet.com etc... :P
ohwell i hope you get it sorted soon..
glad i am on ibrowse 2.3 as that popup link was tempting so i checked it out..got a you need ie or netscape bøa bla to view this site...so lol :)
cheers
-
aminet.net works fine for me (on BT Internet).
Hmm, no pop-ups here on aminet.org, maybe it's because of this (http://www.mozilla.org/)? :-)
The reason for the 'redirection' might be a timeout in the lookup, then browser does the 'name guessing' job (.com, .net, .org) and ends up at aminet.org? The bad name resolution then gets cached?
-
You know, that might have something to do with it. Danamania, what type of account do you have---56k, 28.8k, or broadband? I'm on a dialup that is supposed to support 56k, but that doesn't ever connect beyond 33.6k.
For now, I'm just gonna go to us.aminet.net, as that one doesn't redirect on me.
-
Just checked the source code at www.aminet.net from work. There's nothing there that would do it; no redirect at all, and the title indicates that typing in "us." instead of "www." just brings you quicker to the same place.
We're getting it narrowed down, though. :-)

I get forwarded to here.
Incredible! An Amiga-oriented site (aminet.org) that with IB2.3 without spoofing requires:
"This site is working only under IE 4 and higher and Netscape 4 and higher.
Please update your browser"
With spoofing ON, it redirect to . ..DomainSPA.org page.
Ciao

Checking user agent is such a retarded way of checking the capabilities of a browser. Sites that check user agent should be banned from the internet until they learn how to code.

@ KennyR
While I agree with your first statement, you do seem to love the idea of banning everyone left right and centre :)

That's why we call him a NAZI.
"I don't like guns, ban them!"
"I don't like marriage, ban it!"
"I don't like capitalism, ban it!!"
"I don't like rich people, ban them!"
"I don't like religion XY&Z, ban them all."
"I don't like jews, ban them!"
That is his main philosophy. "Ban what I don't like", "Fund what I do like out of tax payer money"
-
And people who don't want stuff banned should be banned too. :-P
-
Huh ima, you're far closer to a Nazi than I am, Mr. Greed is Good.
-
Nothing to see here folks, move along and don't feed the trolls. Like I am doing now.... :-o

@Odin:

Good idea :-)
Or I could just gag the trolls instead... locking thread now.
Dear GOD!
@ imaboringperson
Why the heck did you have to go and say that? This isn't comp.sys.amiga.* you know...
@ KennyR
You could have tried not rising to it...
