Title: Chaos, Total chaos and Arena
Post by: pubzombie on January 10, 2009, 12:06:22 AM
Hi guys
as some of you know i have just got an amiga again after many years away. Its a stock A1200. I want to play total chaos REAL BAD,  as chaos on the Spectrum was my fave ever game.
I am also in the process of getting my old C64 and tape deck working. I have on tape cassette a c64 clone of Chaos called Arena by Cult games. Has anybody played this? I have yet to meet anybody but me and my little brother who have played it, and cannot find it anywhere. I need to play it AGAIN AND PROTECT THE TAPE CONTENT.
apart from that i just cant wait to play totla chaos, just need to expand and learn whdload first
laters brothers

What is stopping you?  A Force Wall?  Cast a Destroy Wall spell. :-D

I haven't played it.

Here is the deal: In 2004 a guy just like you wrote me a mail.  He came back to the Amiga family after many years away, found Total Chaos AGA and asked me if I had C64 Arena, but he was from Germania.  Your long lost twin brother?

Nobody had never heard of it, people said he was confused, that no such game existed.

I told him to cast Double Cartography then after a few turns of searching he found it!  But everyone says it is buggy and crashes.  I told him ancient artifacts are usually badly damaged and need a Restoration spell but he forgot to pack one in his spellbook.  He gave the game to me but I never tried to play it.  He said Total Chaos blows it away and he forgot about it.

Total Chaos has always been properly programmed so it does not need and cannot use whdload.  You just put Total Chaos on your hard drive and play it.  Simple.  :-)

In addition to that, you need an '030 or better accelerator card and 24 megs of free non-chip RAM.

Chip RAM is the 2 MiB of RAM that comes built in to the A1200.  It is called chip RAM because it is accessible by the custom chips on the A1200 motherboard.

You'd need at least 24 MiB of additional memory in the accelerator card for Total Chaos to work.  Since most accelerator cards have only one socket for memory expansion, you will probably need a 32 MiB memory in that socket to get Total Chaos to run correctly.

LOL! Hehe.

And it happens just as the last megabyte of the archive was downloading then suddenly a reset occured and and a invalidation spell was cast on the the harddrive.  :-D

He meant the one we usually call fast ram. :-)

Excuse me! None of this standards megeabytes crap around me thankyou. When I grew up the A1200 had 2 MB of chip ram and nothing else!! :madashell:

Now just because some lamos with ten fingers who only think in decimal think they can change things doesn't mean I am playing ball. A kilogram is a decimal measurement of weight expanded to 1000 grams. A kilobyte is computerised length of memory expanded to 1024 bytes. A gram and a byte have nothing in common!

Computers don't have pages of memory  divisible by 1000 bytes! They are multiples of 2 as we know. Okay ranting off. Hehe. ;-)

For me, TC runs fine (albeit a little slow when loading the game) on a "humble" Microbotics MX1230XA (030 @ 50MHz with FPU) with mere 128Mb of fast RAM... :-D

For me, TotalChaosAGA works splendid on my Blizzard-IV 030!
It`s like it`s made for it  ;-)

Ppl who find it a tad bit slow could try the following;
1. Open Prefs/Overscan, and set it to default.
2. Disable cpu-consuming commodities.
3. Use the dos-command Addbuffers on the partition.
(i.e "SYS.> addbuffers Games: 800")

The latter makes it start up faster.
