Did anyone even notice that the MCC_HTMLview.lha file on both SourceForge & Aminet is hosed for us OS3 users?
I get an error that the Beta version that I'm using is older than 3 months & to d/l the latest version from http:/www.diku.dk/students/duff which give me a "404 - Page not found" (in danish?) error.
When I run the latest version of AmRSS, which requires HTMLview.mcc, version 13+ it crashes.
When I did a "VERSION" command of the files HTMLview.mcc & HTMLview.mcp this is what I got:
New Shell process 10
10.Workbench:> version Ram:HTMLview.mcc full
HTMLview.mcc 12.5 (09/07/99)
(07-Sep-99)
10.Workbench:> version Ram:HTMLview.mcp full
HTMLview.mcp 13.4 [020] (12/20/07)
Copyright (C) 2005-2007 HTMLview.mcc Open Source Team
10.Workbench:>
(Now obviously when I ran AmRSS, I had these MCC & MCP in the correct directory, but for illustrations sake & brevity of doing a "VERSION" command, I copied them into RAM:)
It appears that HTMLview.mcc is hosed (no good), but HTMLview.mcp is OK.
Where can I obtain a version of HTMLview.mcc for OS3, version 13.4, so that I can run AmRSS???
Has *ANYONE* got the latest version or AmRSS, 5.57 to run in OS3?? I've got OS3.9BB2.
-
Ugh, HTMLView... that brings back some bad memories. I had a hell of a time tracking down a working set of archives a number of years ago.
Seems I've got v12.6 of the .mcc (Jan 3, 2000), but I can't remember where I got it. It might have been from this old thread (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7951) (thanks blobrana!), but now that link is unfortunately out of commission as well. I can't find that archive on my hard drive, but I'd be happy to send you the .mcc itself.
It doesn't generate beta timeout messages (from what I can tell), but if AmRSS demands v13.x, there's probably not much you can do until the v13.x 68K build is fixed.
One last thing to try: use the v12.x .mcc with a v12.x .mcp. Don't know if that'll help, but it might be worth a shot.
-
Nothing you mentioned will resolve it short of someone compiling it & replacing the defective .lha archive file. Are you listening, Jens L.?
-
@Rabbi
I have HTMLview.mcc 12.6 and HTMLview.mcp 12.5 working fine with AmRSS 5.57. I'm using OS3.9. Hope that helps.
-
Maybe you guys are looking for this? :rtfm: (http://www.zerohero.se/mui/download.html)
-
@ rkauer
Nope, that's the same as what's on Aminet - the 68K version inside is still 12.5
-
I use OS4.1 & the ppc version of amrss. The new HTMLview.mcc IS hosed & I had to fall back to version 12.6, 68k version. HTMLview.mcp v13.4 is fine, version 12.6 is on aminet.
The ppc version of YAM also uses a codesets lib & the newer versions also crash amrss. I'd say amrss is at fault given all the newer files that crash it & Jen's isn't responsible for amrss.
-
Is that the version of HTMLview.mcc supplied in the AmRSS archive? If not, did you try that one? As I recall alfie did his own version.
-
I wasn't aware that there's a v5.57 of AmRSS. I'm using version 5.22 and i don't have any problems from HTMLview.mcc v12.6 or codesets.library v6.7.
Perhaps the best solution for you right now is to use this AmRSS version.
-
try on Alfonso [alfie] Ranieri Home Page (http://alfie.altervista.org/soft/index.html)
-
version 12.6 is on aminet
No, it isn't. The archive is labelled as being 12.6, but it actually contains 12.5b.
EDIT: Ah, but the amrss68K.lha (http://alfie.altervista.org/soft/amrss.html) archive does contain 12.6.
-
Just checked & you're right.
I just tried the latest 68k version on os4 & I still get the crash with the latest HTMLview.mcc lib. Ashame as I really liked amrss. I'll use the older lib until I get XNet for os4 figured out. Good luck to you os3.x users with this problem.

Same here, except I have BB2 as well. Everything works fine here ...

Golem!dk
The version Alfie R. did was for MOS, not OS3.x.

AmigaMance,
Please send me v5.22 of AmRSS. My e-mail address is listed in my account; just choose to view my account, and no, that's not my picture. It's a picture of the late French comedian Louis Fuenes (sp?) in "The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob".

@ Rabbi
Are you sure AmRSS 5.57 won't work with HTMLview.mcc 12.6? They are packaged together at Alfie's website, so I'd certainly hope they'd work together...
-
@Rabbi
The version available separately on his page is indeed for MorphOS, the version included (it's in the archive) with the OS3/68k version of amrss is not MorphOS native. Did you even try it as I suggested?
Try deleting any version you may have found on Aminet or on sourceforge and use the version included in the amrss archive (it's there for a reason). Please.
-
xPhilx,
Wow! You're a better Amigan than I am! I can't get it to run. I tried running AmRSS v5.57 with HTMLview.mcc v12.6 & HTMLview.mcp v12.5, when I choose a feed, then press the "Update" button on top, all the article headers get d/led & it freezes up my A1200 @ that point. Do you have the Boing Bag updates installed on your OS 3.9 or is it w/o any BB updates?
In the docs for AmRSS, it states:
Requirements
amrss needs:
·MorphOS 1.45+
·MUI 20+ (I assume he meant 2.0+)
·codesets.library 6+
·mexpat.library 5+
·Busy.mcc 17+
·HTMLview 13+
·NList.mcc 20+
·NListTree.mcc 18+
·NListView.mcc 19+
·TheBarVirt.mcc 19+
·TheButton.mcc 19+
amrss uses:
·asyncio.library 40+
·CManager.library 32+
·openurl.library 4+
·CManager.mcc 32+
·MiniMailer 17+
···············································
What I've got:
·OS 3.9 BB2
·MUI 3.8
·codesets.library 6.5 [020] (12/18/07)
·mexpat.library 5.0 (01/04/08)
·Busy.mcc 17.37 (07/23/97)
·HTMLview.mcc 12.6 (01/03/00)
·NList.mcc 20.120 (12/19/07)
·NListTree.mcc 18.17 (12/19/07)
·NListView.mcc 19.17 (12/19/07)
·TheBarVirt.mcc 26.1 [020] (03/02/08)
·TheButton.mcc 26.1 [020] (03/02/08)
amrss uses:
·asyncio.library 40.6 (06/19/01)
·CManager.library 34.2 (06/09/05)
·openurl.library 5.0 (03/20/03)
·CManager.mcc 34.2 (06/09/05)
·MiniMailer 22.0 (01/21/08)
Are the libraries & mcc files that I've got the latest (other than the problematic HTMLview.mcc that I'm complaining about in this thread)? If not, which ones need updating & where do I get it/them?

Golem!dk,
Yes, I deleted prior versions & put the HTMLview.mcc v12.6 & HTMLview.mcp v12.5 in my MUI Custom Class library directory, but if you read the doumentation that is in his AmRSS v5.57 .LHA file, you'll see that it says that it needs v13+! Go figure! Now why would Alfie put in HTMLview.mcc v12.6 & HTMLview.mcp when his own documentation says it needs v13+?? Slopiness? I dunno?! :-? I tried it with the included HTMLview files & when I choose my feed, it's OK, then, when I press the "Update" button on top, all the feed headlines (subject lines?) are d/led, but then my A1200 freezes up. No good.

The docs mention some problems with newer htmlview releases, so he made his own build but forgot to update that part of the docs. But anyway.. seems htmlview isn't the problem, unfortunately there are enough other suspects on the list of requirements. Couldn't say which is causing the problem you're seeing.
-
Golem!dk,
Yes, he did state that he made his own builds (which are the MOS versions of HTMLview), but he also states that is because he's running under MOS, not 68k, like I am.

Ok, there's hope, I guess. Could you list me your library & MCC versions, as I have, above? I'm really curious to see what versions you've got.

@ Rabbi
At first glance, I see that your version of OpenURL is very old - the current one is 7.0 for 68K. When you install it, rename the OpenURL program in SYS:Prefs to something like OpenURLPrefs. Otherwise, you'll experience a problem with path priorities in which something trying to call 'openurl' will get the one in Prefs/ rather than the one in C:.
BUT
Before you try that, try SnoopDOS. See what sort of activity is going on behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the freeze.

Matt H,
Thanks for the heads-up on OpenURL. I d/led & installed it.
I've never used SnoopDOS before, but I'll try it later today & see what I get.

@Rabbi
have you used the amrss Install script?
For AOS4 users, if you decide to install it manually, delete the amirss/Libs/ and amirss/MUI otherwise you will get double/different classes installed
Anyway this latest version throws DSI now and then (no freezes here under AOS4.0 classic)
-
no way under AmigaOS4.0 :-/
Perfect under AmigaOS3.9 BB2 and Morphos 1.4.5 for PowerUP.

Yes, I used the install script when I updated my version of AmRSS.
I'm assuming that your version of HTMLview.mcc is not the OS3.x version, since you state that you're running AOS4.0 classic? The problem is with this MUI custom class for OS3.x users.
What's a DSI? (Deep Six Indicator?)
-
i'm using HTMLview 12.6 on AmigaOS3.9 BB2.
On the other 2 system (AOS4 and MOS) the native one. (is a triple boot classic system here)

Framiga, if you're able to run AmRSS v5.57, I'd be very interested to see you list the particular versions of all your .library & .mcc files as I have, above. In fact, you can cut & paste the requirements from that posting & fill in your versions of the .library & .mcc files.
I'd also be interested if wurzel would do the same, since he's claiming that he's running AmRSS v5.57 under OS3.x.
BTW, I've d/led & installed newer versions of OpenURL, now @ version 7.0 (07/29/05) & codesets.library v6.8 (01/04/09).
It appears that codesets.library was just updated today. I d/led from SourceForge. It appears that some fixes to it was made, especially for MOS users.
I'm interested in those OS3.x users able to run AmRSS v5.57 to see what versions of the .library & .mcc files they've got. I'm thinking maybe an older version of one of these is needed instead of a newer version.
I've also got a SnoopDOS.log file that I'd like some help with, since I never ran SnoopDOS before, as Matt_H suggested I do. I wrote Matt_H a private message about this, so Matt_H, check your account.
-
@Rabbi
I'll get a versions list together for you tomorrow m8.
-
after doing some quick tests on OS4 also (yes Rabbi i know you are not interested in this but sometimes it helps to find out the problem on other AmigaOS and alike systems), i'm 99% sure that the HTMLview is not the issue here (even using the 68k version on AOS4).
I'll try to buils a list of my mcc and libraries ASAP.
Can you post here the SnoopDos log? (only the amrss part)

here the
AmigaOS3.9BB2 LIBS Version list (http://www.webalice.it/cieffeeditingvideo/a4k/libs)
and
AmigaOS3.9 BB2 MCC Version list (http://www.webalice.it/cieffeeditingvideo/a4k/mcc)
and a
plain LIST (http://www.webalice.it/cieffeeditingvideo/a4k/libs-mccLIST)
-
@Rabbi
Here's the differing file versions I have, all those not listed are the same as yours:
·OS 3.9 no BB1 or BB2
*.Mexpat.library 5.0 (01/04/08) is in /amrss/etc/libs/
·NListTree.mcc 18.27 [020] (12/19/07)
·NListView.mcc 19.75 [020] (12/19/07)
·TheBarVirt.mcc 21.5 [020] (12/21/07)
·TheButton.mcc 21.5 [020] (12/21/07)
amrss uses:
·asyncio.library 40.3 (07/28/00)
·CManager.library 10.0 (09/19/99) *LOL, I'm way behind with this one!
·openurl.library 3.0 (09/26/99)
·CManager.mcc 13.1 (09/19/99) *..and this one!
I'll see if I can break my AmRSS with the versions you have later.
-
Just to add a little info... AmRSS 5.57 does work on OS3.9. It's actually included with AmiKit (http://amikit.amiga.sk/).
I've never used AmRSS on my personal setup, but I booted AmiKit and AmRSS 5.57 did indeed seem to work just fine, updates and everything.
AmiKit:
HTMLview.mcc - 12.6
and HTMLview.mcp - 12.5
Openurl.library is version 7.4 though, which you can download here:
http://alfie.altervista.org/soft/index.html (http://alfie.altervista.org/soft/index.html)
As others have said looks like something other than HTMLview at this point.
EDIT:
Also checked:
thebarvirt.mcc - 26.2
thebutton.mcc - 26.2
codesets.library - 6.6
-
-UPDATE-
AmRSS seems to be pretty bullet-proof here Rabbi. I've installed all the file versions you're using other than TheBarVirt.mcc and TheButton.mcc which both remain at V21.5 here; I couldn't find V26.1. I did find 'V26.2' but it was V21.5 in the archive. All this was done on an A4KD 040 / Picasso IV / Ariadne II / OS3.9.
I had a clean install of OS3.1 on my A3KD 040 / Prometheus / Voodoo 3 / 8029 NIC so I tried AmRSS on that. I installed it manually and all was fine. The only way I could get it to crash was to remove the 'HTMLview' directory and its contents from mui:libs/mui/. Removing this directory and trying to view a feed that has images crashes my AmRSS. Have you tried a feed without images?

What I've got in my system:
OS 3.9 BB2

·NList.mcc 20.121
·NListTree.mcc 18.28
·NListView.mcc 19.76

·CManager.library 10.5
·openurl.library 7.0
·CManager.mcc 13.5
·MiniMailer Not on my system!
Hope that helps.

Um, I turned on all the options. This was my first time using it. Is there some site I can post my SnoopDOS.log file to? It's a bit too much to post it here.
I want to thank the Amiga community for helping me get this far. I have a very busy week, unfortunately, & won't really be able to get back to it until at least this Saturday night. I'll be checking here, though, for responses for a site to post my SnoopDOS.log file to. I'd appreciate some help it understanding it. It's more a problem of having the time to go through it personally, but if anyone can mentor me with understanding what to look for, I'd graciously appreciate that. This way, in the future, I can read it on my own.
-
I've got the SnoopDOS.log file, but it's too big. I've got all the possible switches turned on, too. If you write me a private message with your e-mail address, I'll send it to you. Thanks in advance to all who've helped me so far. Let's see if I can finally resolve it with the community's assistance.

I've been having the same problem with AmRSS (lock-up after updating feed) and I was really hoping this thread would give me a hint as to what may be the problem. If anyone has any further insight into this, please share! Many thanks!
