Hi,
This is my all-time favourite Amiga game and I've just installed the WHDload version on my A1200 - ah, the memories!
But I was wondering if there is a proper PAL version that uses the whole (320x256) screen. The (NTSC) version I have 'wastes' a large area at the bottom of the display with a grey nothingness...
Any chance that there is a proper PAL version somewhere out there?
Cheers,
Mike.

Would that be even on the loading screen and menu's as well ?
I'll have to fire up my IPF's in Winuae, but I have never recalled a grey area at the bottom.

Yes there is one, I had it for my A500. Why not try in the icon tooltypes: many whdload games have "NTSC" in the icon tooltypes. Set this to "PAL", or add "PAL" if NTSC is not there.

@whiteb,
Yeah, you see in the link you posted - a big chunk of the screen is unused...
I think setting it to PAL wouldn't do anything...
It's the game itself (the version I have is at 320x200) that dictates the screen resolution...
I'm hoping (though not hopeful!) that there is a full PAL version out there somewhere!
Cheers,
Mike.

I don't have my F/A18 disk handy to check... But I'm 70% sure that it was a 320x200 game... The shear amount of gfx processing required, would make it sensible to limit the screen to the smaller format...

Well, I expect the game was initially coded for 320x200 NTSC displays and ported directly to PAL without any alterations to the code.
The screenshots on HOL would confirm this:

Incidentally, there is an excellent interview with programmer Bob Dinnerman linked from the HOL page.
Great game - I spent many hours playing this with my father during the Christmas holidays of 1988...our first A500 - ah, those were the days!
Cheers,
James

After hunting around it looks like it's 320x200...
It's still my all-time favourite game on any Platform... Followed by H.E.R.O on the C64!
I too spent many hours playing it - and still do!
It's one of the few games I actually got to the end of...
Cheers,
Mike.

With only six missions it doesn't take much time :-D.
