Title: a3000(D) processor upgrade - info, help appreciated.
Post by: boinger on December 27, 2008, 03:43:07 AM
hi. i'm a newbie on this site and not a techie. i'm in the process of upgrading my a3000 desktop ntsc os 2.04(at present gonna be 3.1 soon). what is the best '060 processor board available for this machine. i only care that the new board will support 64-128 megs of ram. scsi 11 support is not important to me. if the board has scsi ii support and i don't implement it will i still have to do that int 2 modification on the motherboard ???

any info would be appreciated as this is costing me serious $ but i've always loved the amiga ever since i bought my a1000 in '86.

thanx.

I would suggest maybe a Cyberstorm MKII.  It is a proven performer and several have sold recently for reasonable amounts on EBay ($225 - $250).  That's down from the $400 plus they were fetching earlier this year.  Even if it comes with no Ram you can pick up the 4 32MB simms on EBay for under $20.  The MKII is what I use in my A3000T (Mine is overclocked to 66).
