...other than trademark lawsuits, of course. Are they really making anything from licensing agreements or anything of that nature? Is anyone privy to the state of the company?
-
Didn't someone else just flame bait this like a week ago?
-
I guess Cloanto have some sort of deal with Amiga Inc?
-
Yes, I know, but you can buy Amiga Forever for as little as $9.95. I cannot imagine that this is more than pocket change for Amiga, Inc. or anyone else.
-
One million at a time ;-)
-
As far as I can tell, investors give them lots of money, they p*ss it up the wall, and then they get more money from investors, and then they p*ss it up the wall, and then...
;-)
-
They make it really, really simpel: They just print it with the HP Desktjet 800C they have in their office! Haven't you heard that Amiga Inc is actually the reason for the big financial problems in the US of A?
That was joking.
I know of rumours from the past that stated that MicroSoft was actually paying Bill McE. to not release new Amiga hardware / OS. If that rumour is indeed true, it would explain an a lot.
-

Noone is paying anyone not to relase new amiga HW or software.
What would be the point, thats the funniest thing ive heard this week
-
They sell their incredibly innovative CoolTools (http://www.amiga.com/news/?art=35). Well if that's not gonna work I guess they beg their investors for more money.

I know of a rumor where Amiga actually has controlling interest in Microsoft.
-
Snowman Maker is the killer app we've all been waiting for!
-
@ WeirdAmi:
:-D forgot another 'That was joking' ;-).
-
Well they sell SD Cards for the Minimig preloaded with a licensed Kickstart and a selection of the classic ADF games available from their online store.
... oh sorry, no they don't. My mistake.
-
they dont :ak47:

There are companies that buy others companies for billions dollars and forget it in the bottom of a store only for kill the competition. i.e Palm and BeOS
So it´s not unreasonable to think that microsoft has some sort of agreement in that respect

Not even slightly. After Windows95 the Amiga totally dissappeared from MicroSoft's radar... M$ had nothing to do with the death of the Amiga at all!
-
I don't think Microsoft has been bothered with the Amiga since Windows 3.1 - they had the business and office markets and they knew it.
When that was all going down I had to reluctantly switch to Windows to continue taking work home with me.
Even then the only thing I ever heard that was a thorn in Microsoft's side was that Doom was installed on more PC's than Windows 95 - and actively pushed for Doom to run on it.
In 2000 I heard of them doing a push to compete with Linux on the server front... but I don't think the Amiga has bothered them for a very long time - and if you try and see it objectively from their side, there's no need for them to be.
Apple has once again risen as prime competition for them, and the Amiga is a looooooong way from that, even with the recent releases of hardware/software.
When it comes to companies buying competing products - Avid does this fairly aggressively - buying up companies for the sole purpose of discontinuing competing products (Newsstar and SoftImage spring to mind) - but again I can't see Microsoft being bothered as the Amiga is hardly a blip on the radar anymore... Everything classic Amigas used to do have long been 'absorbed' and can be done better for less money.
I don't know how much Amiga Inc would need to make to stay afloat - seeing how they seem to do very little actual development of their own, maybe they dont need much at all...
Still there is another scenario - corporations do buy companies that are never meant to make a profit, to be used for tax write offs and incentives... this, to me, seems a pretty likely thing as I've never really heard of Amiga Inc turning a profit in the last 5 years, in fact I've not seen bleep out of them other than the lawsuit....
-
According to Bill McE there was some sort of deal with Microsoft. But then... Bill also promised Amiga OS 5, claiming it to be way better than OSX......
-
I just had to comment on this. I went to the link you posted and read this:
"Amiga Inc. initially founded in 1983 and re-established in 2000 is a computer software company"
They basically are a "software" company that needs Hyperion to write their software. That answers the poster's question. The whole lawsuit is how they make money.
I had some contractors in my house who broke stuff and they said "It really isn't our fault." They know we won't get our deductible back and they want us to pay for their damages. I'm sure it works the same way in the investment world.
Does anyone still want to do business with them if they stay afloat?

Was not said many and many times that Pennti Kouri, who is a very rich man (and one of the major owners of Nokia bonds), is the man beyond the Amiga Inc.? :rtfm:

I'd really like to see timeline of things Bill McE has said... vs how many were actually true.
I got to the point ages ago of taking everything he said, and reversing it to find the truth.

This has to be the low point for the once great "Amiga" brand.
Now selling 99-cent crap for Windows devices! Wow, what an embarrassment. It's even worse than doing absolutely nothing with the Amiga trademark. Beyond laughable, it's truly sad.
-
@orb85750
Calling that crap "Amiga" is a real insult, I agree. Sadly though it's what happening with our beloved brand...
-
Selling T-shirts.
-
@orb85750
Apparently Bill Mcewen can suck a golf ball through a hosepipe, if that means anything.
-
I'm going to guess they have one of these:

I doubt they make money?
When I take a look at their shop I can't help thinking that those "products" are only there because they have to look active. AFAIK Bill and Fleecy paid $5M for Amiga? The small selection in shopamiga would never be able to pay that.
I think Pennti Kouri keeps Amiga alive because he uses the company to move funds around for tax reasons. Probably 100% legit but sad to see Amiga Inc used only for that.
Are there any members near Issaquah who could pay Amiga a visit? Go there in the morning and see who meets up at their address and if Bill shows up go and ask him if they can get a glimpse of OS5 (or Snowmanmaker 2009)?
-
Has anyone noticed that NOTHING they sell will actually run on a real Amiga? Kind of sad if you ask me.looks like they have turned their backs on the original hardware. I am sure Amigakit makes 1oo times more money in a year then they do.

There was a slip of the tongue in an interview where he said that AA2 really was OS5 but they had to change the name because they had a deal with microsoft or some such. Probably something to do with not wanting microsoft to think that Amiga was putting a competing operating system on cellphones with windows mobile installed. I think these days, he's saying that AA2 is not OS5 at all, which makes me wonder where OS5 is. I'm pretty sure it's that thing they're calling AA2.
-
They're tied to the mafia and use the name to wash moeney...
or, less likely but also possible, after the bank management problems in various countries it shouldn't be a surprise for anyone that many investors are also badly informed, so AInc uses the Amiga name presence on the net to catch them, pretending they're doing something.
-
common we all know Mcbill sells his ass!
-
Good guestion, they've been in business for six or seven years and the only product I've seen from them are a handful of Amiga games for Windows Mobile or Windows, no alternative operating systems and certainly no Amiga products.

I think Red has made more money in ebay auctions over the last couple of months then Amiga Inc has made in their entire run.
Their web site & online shop are really sad. It shouldnt have the Amiga brand name on it at all.
-
According to Bill McE there was some sort of deal with Microsoft.
of course he'd lie and say that. It makes it look like Amiga Inc actually has a revolutionary product that MS is afraid of. As we all see, AI has nothing.
MS crushed the Amiga with Windows 95 as it was stated earlier. I even was amazed with Windows95 when it came out.

If I was a gambling man, I'd take that bet.

After months of investigation, I have tracked down the real guy behind Amiga, Inc's business strategy. Here is a video clip of him detailing their business plan:

Do Amiga, Inc make money?!? First I've heard of it ...
I suspect the company acts as a tax write-off for it's investors. I don't see them doing much else ...
-
They do it the same way we here at Amiga.org do it!
Donations...
Only their's are much much larger.
-
Windows 95 didn't crush the Amiga. Commodore did with years of mismanagement and stagnation.
-
Hey guys I’m back! What’s new? Wait, let me browse the topics today… Oh, nothing.
All right, see you next year!
(Seriously, I’ll check back in 6 months)
-
SAM motherboard is out and AOS4.1 version for it. MOS2.2 is out... Probably nothing more that interesting...
-
By printing their own money, Amiga Inc. started the financial crisis....
Bad joke ;-) This is not true! No way they could afford the printing ink needed to pull that one off.
For old school Amiga, the Minimig is around and a case to match is available. So actually, now is the time to rejoin and start checking the page on a more regular base ;-).
-
I suspect it is basically a money laundering business, they were quite active with press releases until they fell silent in February. It's a good cover, a lot of people know the Amiga name, so they report 100s of millions of dollars in income the tax people would have no reason to question it and the money become legit...
