Here's a link to the image (http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/7811/tree14zq5.jpg).

If anyone cares for 18 Gig SCSI drives - in ~2 months I'll have a bunch of (appr. 12) SCA2 drives that will be going for free/postage...
-
if someone steals that tree then they can get the data because he didn't dod wipe them like he was supposed to.
-
{bleep}ing idiot
-
Actually they cant, unless they were single-platter drives.. Because once the platters are "unindexed" the only people likely to have equipment capable of "re-indexing" them is the manufacturer...
-
or some enterprising hacker type or graduate student looking for a thesis.
-
They would likely have ended up going through an industrial shredder for recycling anyway.
-
Sheesh! Why the complaining and calling the guy an idiot ? He was bored and made a tree out of hardware to be junked! Pretty cool really!
-
Yeah I kind of like it too. Looks like the kind of tree you would find at the home of Robbie the Robot. (http://www.thegreenhead.com/imgs/robby-the-robot-1.jpg)

Plus matching the sets that were each drive, deal with little dents, scratches and dirt - very hard to accomplish on that scale.

Really? Please let me know when you have some :)

Yeah, that was my thought as well.
I doubt he used fully functional drives for this project.

IMHO there is no such thing as stupid people. Or intelligent people for that matter.
What I am trying to say is it is the action not the person which would be lacking intelligence.
Just stupid moments, and intelligent moments. We all have both.
However I don't think this is anywhere near as stupid as is cool. I myself have wallpapered two rooms of my house with dead 3"1/4 floppies. Photos coming to the images section soon...

@anakirob
Anthropomorphically speaking, of course.
-
an·thro·po·mor·phism (nthr-p-môrfzm)
n.
Attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behavior to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena.
I think it actually the antonym of Anthropomorphic we are dealing with (Whatever word that may be).
I seem to be attributing natural phenomena to human motivation rather than the other way 'round.
But of course I could just be having a stupid moment :-P

What a great idea! Did you use all one colour, just mix them up or use different colour disks to produce a pattern?

I`d be very happy to use a SCSI drive with my CS-PPC SCSI controller. Please PM me when you got it :-).

i was part way through rescuing a stack of 9 and 18Gb drives about 6 months ago but my hardware cupboard got relocated and had an incident involving gravity and a flight of stairs during an office move, and the contents written off before i could recover them (sounds like a BOFH episode), but i'm currently building a pile of 36Gb drives (got about 10 so far) that i'll wipe and check for defects when i get the time before offering them in here.
the 72 gigers i'm keeping... :-D

That's the anthropomorficaly part since moments and actions don't inherently have intelligence to begin with. In a stupid moment, it's the people being stupid for a moment, not the moment being stupid for a people... or something like that.
