My A2000 has the standard CBM A2091 HD board 2Meg fast onboard
Boot roms 6.6 roms sys2
I have a GVP A2000 SCSI +8 board 4 Meg fast on board
I think the Boot roms GVP V1.0 ODD 69D9 GVP V1.0 even 1A3B
Q.
apart from the extra ram and using bigger capacity HD would there be any advantage in swapping the Hd control boards?
Also have a AT Parallel Serial adaptor flytech 8608030 v4.1
What is its primary use? :-?

Hi.
Hmm your GVP rom's version is old.
Last offical release from GVP is rev 4.15
Your 2091 have newer roms. Last roms from Commodore is 7.0
So.. I think (not sure) you will get bigger SCSI disk on
the 2091.
But you can get the 7.0 rom for the 2091 easy from ebay for a few bucks. The 4.15 rom's for your GVP is more rare.
But, as I remember there is only 1 rom chip on the GVP?

The GVP is a SCSI-II device (a lot faster). A2091 is SCSI "1" (slow).
Even the first GVP ROM accepts 1Gb HD, the pretty same as the 6.6 ROM of the A2091.
If you want to keep both (memory expansion?), use the 2091 as a HD holder (move the boot jumper to disable) and just use the image of the 7.0 ROM into the expansion drawer of Workbench. This way you use pretty much any HD you want on it (the 2091) and boot from the GVP one (just the boot HD and a CD-ROM, for example).
[EDIT] The 1.0 ROM on the GVP SCSI 8+ (not the HC series!!!) only allow disks up to 100Mb(!). Grab an upgrade ASAP! That controller is way better than the el-cheapo A2091.

i see on ebay GVP series 11 scsci Rom V4.15 upgrade is this the last upgrade they released for this board.
As there appears to be two on the board one labelled
GVP V1.0 ODD 69D9 the other GVP V1.0 EVEN 1A3B
which one would I be replacing they only offer one as the upgrade
also can I test the board without a hard drive?

2000 HC+8 is SCSI II board
A2000 SCSI+8 is SCSI I board
And if you have A2000 SCSI+8 board, It looks like rom 3.15 is the last one for this board.
And the bord do use 2 roms. So you have too burn yourself.
So atm you are best off whit the bit slower 2091 SCSI card.
And use the GVP as ram card.

Quoting Amiga Hardware Database:
* SCSI 2 DMA controller WD 33C93 controller IC
* autoboot ROM (optional on early versions) - autobooting requires at least Kickstart 1.3
* has no autoboot disable jumper - the autoboot ROMs have to be removed under Kickstart 1.2
* 50 pin internal SCSI header
* DB25 external connector
* hard disk activity LED connector
* no place for mounting a hard disk on the card
* memory eight 30 pin SIMM sockets accept up to 8 MB RAM
* accepts 1 MB SIMMs in groups of two
* DMA between drive and 16 kB onboard SRAM

I have roms for :
2091 version
and
GVP A2000 SCSI +8 board rom 3.15.
These are the correct & latest versions. I can also sell these to you, will be tested on my boards.
PM if interested.

I belived the HC was a new design SCSI II card. :) And the A2000+8 was a old SCSI one. :-O
But, sorry for my confusion.
