I have ordered a Deneb for my A4000. I want to connect
a DVD drive to it. Are there some internal USB DVD-RW drives
(I haven't found them) or have I to buy eg. SATA DVD-RW and SATA->USB adapter?
-
SATA to USB adapter i'm afraid...
-
thanks darksun for your reply;
btw is better to keep an old scsi dvdrom or change it with mentioned deneb-usb->sata solution?
-
I've had trouble with my SATA DVD drive on my Deneb.
It works as a CD-ROM just fine, and from memory may have worked with CD writing too, but I had no luck getting it to read or write DVDs.
Of course YMMV. :) I was testing under OS 4, BTW.

I have an internal IDE CD drive on my A4000 and then use an external USB DVD+/-RW from HP via the Deneb. I guess you're trying to get everything into 1 neat box. :-)

Those external USB ports just scream "dangle something big out of the back of the case!" :-D
I have come across a few older 5.25" external USB DVD drives where you could in theory "bodge" them for the internal bay. The drive itself is usually a standard IDE drive and the back panel of the case will have the IDE to USB adapater and the port to plug the external power suppy. Remove the drive from the case, plug the A4000's power lead directly to the drive and just use the IDE-USB bit of the case to connect the drive to the Deneb's internal USB port using a standard USB cable. The only worry you have is "long" drives not fitting in the bay or "scrunching" up the cables against the PSU.

Ah, I use one of them for attaching Hard Drives to my PC and Deneb. It is a real handy piece of kit.
