Title: EZ Z4 Tower + Mediator PCI
Post by: amiware on December 04, 2008, 09:57:09 PM
Hello,

I have read that some guy experienced issues with the Tower Case I was going to buy that is the EZ Z4 Tower.

Is it compatible with the Mediator PCI or is it good only for Zorro Boards?

I was reading a thread over here talking about this issues but doing the search I did not find anything more!

Thanks

The EZ Z4 Tower (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=700) is compatible with Mediator. See our product description:

It is compatible but if you have the 1200TX 6 socket PCI version only 4 of the PCI sockets will line up.

It is compatible but if you have the 1200TX 6 socket PCI version only 4 of the PCI sockets will line up.

I have a Mediator SX converted to TX, and it is fitted in an Eyetech EZ Z/Mk4 Tower, and I have access to all 6 PCI slots.

I put the Ethernet card in the bottom slot, and had to cut out a small rectangular slot/hole under/below the end of the PCI slot bays so that I could plug in the Ethernet lead. It was a little fiddly to sort out the access hole/slot but works just fine. I had to drill a hole right on the bottom edge of the PCI frame where the other cards screw in, so I could secure the card in place with a screw, like the other cards, so it is held firmly in place. It is a slight bodge, but does the trick, and I suppose I could fit a different type of card there if I really needed to, but the Ethernet card was the simplest to work out, and still leave the other bays available.

I have a Voodoo 3 in the top slot, a Radeon 9200 in the 2nd slot, a SoundBlaster 4750 in the 3rd slot, a Spider USB card in the 4th slot, a PixelPro TV card in the 5th, and the 6th is the RTL 8029 Ethernet card.

I hope this gives more Mediator users an idea to access to all the PCI slots available with the SX/TX boards that own an Eyetech EZ Mk4/Z4 tower, the one with the slightly purple/lilac coloured power button on the front and the curved removable panel lower floppy drive/3.5" tray under the main floppy drive slot.

My mistake, I couldnt remember if it was 4 or 5 PCI sockets that lined up. Good idea about putting the network card at the end and cutting a hole.
