Title: Time To KickStart *issue*
Post by: Daniele on December 02, 2008, 09:07:54 PM
Hi,

I am reassembling one Amiga 1200 of mine with KS3.1 no HD.
I hooked FDD and Keyboard but when I power OFF and Power ON or when I reset seems to delay too much to show the KickStart.

I.E. if I give a "reset" I have to wait about 33 seconds to see the KickStart screen.
Is it normal? Or Do I have any issue?

Many Thanks

There ain't no kickstart screen on A1200's.

@Daniele

The delay is normal.
KS 3.1 has a boot delay to check for IDE devices. If you've got no IDE HD connected then the delay takes about 30 secs.

Edit: The delay is there because there are some harddisks that take a long time to spin up when you power on the system.

@Thomas

"Insert Workbench", or perhaps more like "insert a bootable disk".

Nope...

on the Amiga 1000 after powering ON it appears

Insert KickStart

after loaded KickStart appears

Insert Workbench!

And back in the years when I bought the A500 seemed to be something good to not have to load KS before any software!

There's a chap on here that makes an IDE terminator that attaches to the IDE header and stops the delay.  He sells them really cheap and they do work.  I bought one for my A4000 as I use a Zorro IDE controller instead of the motherboard one and had the same problem.

Hi Darrin, maybe you are talking about the Amiga 4000 IDE Terminator that should be for A4000 Only!

There also is a IDE terminator version for the a600 and a1200.
Look here (http://www.amigaworld.de/index.php?page=60).

There are also software solutions. There is the blizkick NOIDE module.
Also when you have a deneb or kickflash, you can put the NOIDE module in the flashrom.
