Hello everybody, I am having an issue with an Amiga 500. When I turn the machine on, the power LED flickers on then imediately dims and the computer turns off. I know it isn't the power supply because I have used it on other computers I own. Does anybody have any clue to what this may be and how to correct it?
Thanks.

Does the A500 have a ram/clock expansion? If so, try removing it and see if it boots. Could be another battery issue but, luckily, it only ruins the memory card usually.

Thanks for the reply. No it doesn't have any expansions at all. It is just a barebone Amiga 500.

Sounds like a short in the computer drawing too much from the power supply and causing it to shut down. If you have a multimeter, try comparing the resistance readings between the power supply voltage lines and ground... and each other... to a known good machine.
I once saw a 2000 fried by a lightning strike on the phone line.... took out the modem, Paula, and shorted the serial port driver chip. That last kept the machine from powering on.

Don't spend too much time stressing over it, given that a stock A500 is not many more $$ than a stock C64 on eBay. Keep the old unit for parts, perhaps.
