Title: Microvitec: M1438 *Question*
Post by: Daniele on November 29, 2008, 10:51:33 PM
Hello,

I wonder if the Monitor M1438 from Microvitec can be used on A1200 without any scandoubler.
On the Big Book of Amiga Hardware I read that it has Horiz: 15 - 35Khz.
Now I usually use a Commodore 1084s and I see flickering.
I have bought an external Scandoubler to use a normal PC monitor and I have no flickering.

Now what I would like to know if I need the scandoubler to use Microvitec M1438 and if I can display high resolution without flickering issues.

Many Thanks

Should work fine. All you need is an adpter to convert the monitors plug to the video port of the A1200. I used one of these with my A4000 without nay problems. My only regret now is that I gave the monitor away!

To de-flicker interlace modes you need a flickerfixer. The M1438 can be used with or without a SD/FF.

I have a 1438s and it is a straight plug into my A4000T. It is a nice monitor, mine has an intermittent loss of red signal though.

This monitor's advantage is that it should show all amiga screen modes to be seen without and scandoubler or flickerfixer.  That is, it will display: PAL and NTSC for games, PAL and NTSC interlaced (which flicker) and DBLPAL AND DBLNTSC and a few others which don't have interlaced flicker but DBLPAL (to my eyes anyway) has refresh flicker.  You don't need an external scan doubler to see all of these screen modes, but if you want PAL and NTSC interlaced to stop flickering you need an external flicker fixer.  But you can achieve the same screen resolution without any interlaced flicker just by choosing DBLPAL AND DBLNTSC in screenmode prefs.
