In sombody's opinion, are these requirements sufficient to run OS 3.9 with no problems or slowdowns?
Amiga 3000 Desktop
2 MB chip ram
16 MB Fast Ram
KS 3.1
2.1 GB Hard Drive
Thanks.

I ran my 3000 with the same config with 3.9 and it was horrible. Very slow. 3.1 was the best IMHO. I was told that with a dedicated graphics card it would have been much better.

That should work just fine but more fast ram is always better.

Rather than 'should work' I can tell you from personal experience, the speed diff between 3.1 and 3.9 is big.

Thanks for the help. I guess I will have to stick with 3.1 for now until I get some new hardware. Thanks.

I run 3.9 on an A2500 and have not experienced 'slow downs' other than slightly slower icon loads. Might depend on what all you're doing with it though.
@ tonyyeb,
What programs are you running that would/should run slower on 3.9 vs. 3.1?
My config: A2500 w/ 25mhz 030 GVP combo card. 9mb 32-bit fast ram and 2mb ECS chip.

Just the general workbench experience. Opening windows etc... Much quicker with 3.1.

Sure, that's why I keep the WB colours low, usually 8-16. But overall, I'm very pleased with OS3.9 on my A2500.

Os 3.9 (not shure about 3.5) uses a new icon engine that practically mandates the use of RTG. Picasso II or IV work very nicely. Without RTG, icons and workbench use is very sluggish.
However, with RTG, OS 3.9 looks as modern as any other OS. On my setup, OS 3.9 is very responsive. I also have a 3000 with Picasso II and 8 Megs of fast memeory (no accelerator). It is a little slower but still very pleasant to use.

@ barney
I happily used OS3.9 for a very long time before I got a GFX card. I'd suggest you give it a try on a different hard drive if you don't want to upgrade your current installation :-)

I guess speed largely depends on color depth - hires 16 color is very slow on ECS...
