Uh, not to say that Red's not the man, but he said he doesn't have it at the moment.

So if you want to have it as soon as possible you can order at the places mentioned above that do have it in stock and also save on transatlantic shipping.

Wasn't the emergency install disk system specific, and therefore not interchangeable with other Amigas (unless they are very much alike)?

I don't thinks so, unless they assume that everyone has exactly the same system that is running it. I am going to order it right away, but nowhere on the order page does it say anything about what hardware it is for.

If you will gonna use the emergency disk, you have to make some modifications according to your system setup of drives etc.

AFAIK you are given the option to create an emergency boot disk when you install OS 3.9.   It creates a floppy that contains essential files specific to your Amiga eg cd driver, video drivers/libraries for RTG users.  I never created one though so i could be wrong

Are you sure about that?  As someone else wrote, the Emergency Disk is a recovery disk and you are prompted to create one before you attempt the installation of OS3.9.  When you install the 3.9 CD an Emergency Floppy disk icon does show up on the Workbench as well as the OS3.9 CD icon, even before you have inserted a blank floppy disk to create the Emergency Floppy Disk.

I had two OS3.9 CD's but one has gone bad, so I should probably buy another backup before they are gone (Unless the distributor's are continuing to create new CDs with their license to do so).

Yes, amigakit provides a emergency disk.. mine disintegrated somehow before i could put it to any use tho. I'd recommend finding a suitable setup with 3.1, say with cdrom drives etc, then create the emergency disk with the cd, it detects the presence of idefix at least.
