HOLY CRAP!!
Yes this is in the red's bad a** thread, but I think this deserves it's own thread ;-)
-
*LOL* nice

Oh damn, I was outbid :-o
-

There is no such thing as an ugly Commodore :-)
-
Would it actually work if you loaded everything up on it like a real A4000?
-
In theory yes.
-
@red
"in theory"... guys its a prototype, just like C65 motherboard (might consider selling ours one day). Nice & Rare indeed, for those that collect but not use.
-
Sine when did prototypes have Kickstart 3.1?
And does the CPU card have a 68020 & 881 & MMU?

Eeeer, since prototypes aren't ever sold who can say what they come with? There are no specs for prototypes, they are for testing and at times demoing. Looking at the pictures you can tell it was not for demo. For all we know it didn't have roms and they were added by the C= employee who brought it home. The motherboard is rev1.0, the CPU card is an A3200 rev1.0, the faceplate is black. This is a prototype.

68020 and 6882.
Click here (http://i33.tinypic.com/1z5i621.jpg) for a big pic.
At second glance this is a weird dual CPU board with both 020 and 030!
It is a A3200/A3400 :-? weird.
-
The top right corner drivebay also looks non a4000 like. seems indeed to be some kind of prototype. The triple AAA board that I have seen with Dave Haynie, also was that color.
-
That CPU card is not rare or special. They were released with some A3000T's and A4000 030 systems. I have one in my A4000/030. They are 030 cards, but had provisions for 020 I guess...
-
bah looks like someone just spray painted the front.
-
You have a CPU card that says A3200/A3400 rev1.0 and has both a 68020 and a 68030?
-
@redrumloa
You were too excited to check for typey errors. :-P
-
That's one cool piece of history you have there Red, shame (for me) that it'll go for a lot more than I'm willing to part with. Good luck to Red and whoever the winning bidder is :-)
-
Ill be watching the end price on this one =)... i have one just like this that never sees any usage in my house... from what i remember only a handfull were ever made and the name is not A4000 prototype but A3400...
-
Redrumloa: You have managed to find quite lot rare items and computers.
Could you consider to make some kind of gallery of them and maybe even nice description?
It's quite possible that when you sell tehem we woun't see them any more ;)
-
Red,
i think thats a good idea (about the pictures).
if hardware book (amiga) does not want it, then pls email them to us, we will host the images of the motherboard etc (particularly) the amiga 4000 one mentioned here.

I've emailed the pics to you, do what you wish with them. The picture quality are not all that great. Conditions here in the workkshop are not very ideal for photography :-/

The card itself isn“t very rare, but I guess the two mounted CPUs could count as rare. According to BBOAH it seems the card is switchable between the two..
-
fgs somebody spray the rest of that case black!
That case looks U ... G ... L ... Y
-
Odd.. Could have sworn Red posted and said the A3630 wasnt the A3200/A3400.. :-)
Anyway, on BBOAH you can read the following:
"The A3200/A3400 printed on the PCB actually refers to the machine the card was to be installed in. Apparently Commodore actually considered calling the 020 based A4000's the A3200 and 030 based A4000's the A3400. "
-
That looks like a developer's machine to me! When they were working on Brilliance, Digital Creations had a couple of these black A4000 prototypes. They had Brilliance well on its way before the A4000 was actually released.
Didn't see the inside, heck...I was under non-disclosure and wasn't allowed to talk about even having seen one at the time.
I've seen one other A4000 prototype since, in the pile of machines at 4 Jays store in Antioch.
Your machine is truly a rare bird! Good luck on the auction.
-
The cpu board is 020/030 which is switchable by the jumpers there, rather ingenious really, makes the card ideal for hw hack development too
-
That processor card is a "Developers" board Jim. I sold one to another A.Org user some years ago. The jumpers by the Slot Connector had to be set correctly to select one CPU or the other. You will also find the CPU on that card is a FULL 030 & not an EC one! ;-)
