This seems REALLY reasonable to me and would buy it *if* I had an A4000. What's going on here? Is it because it's a MK I? OR because it does not have a PPC chip?
Do you think people are starting to skip this stuff and go straight for a SAM, Efika, etc?

Then buy it & I'll sell you an A4000.
Just joking, honest. ;-)
Dunno for sure, maybe a bit pricey for a MkI, $300 might be better & tops @ that!
Sam & Efika etc is not the same as having the original HardWare.
-
I originally sold this to Danny a few months back now (he has purchased alot from me actually) and I think that the MKI or MKII ar more robust than the MKIII.
They seem to last and not suffer from bad solder joints like the MKIII and do a nice job for accelerating a 4000D with ram expansion to 128M.
I never had any issues with this accel. in my 4000D when I owned it and assume it is in just as good as shape now. I think there were maybe not as many MKI's sold which would also make them more rare than the MKII or MKIII.
Just my 2cents!
-
Dead right about the MKIII soldering, I can vouch for that. ;-)
Rarity could also effect the price too! You don't see many of these puppies around! He might get more interest if set a lower starting bid & dropped the BIN. That really puts a lot of folk off tbh!
It's really cool someone can come in here & be able to say, "Hey, that was my old card".
Awesome! :-)

@ Kin-Hell:
I know the other hardware and the legacy stuff is different... just wondering if there is a different mindset NOW that there are more modern options. A few months ago, I highly doubt an 060 expansion system for ANY legacy Amiga would have lasted long on ePay with a buy it now of "only" $400. I'd probably pay that to get one for my A2000 or A1200.
BUT... I've been thinking about doing the PPC thing to monkey around with MorphOS. I've got several Amiga systems already, but they're just 030's with no graphics accelerator. Would I like to pimp out a legacy system? You bet! But that is very cost prohibitive and really, when you boil it down, probably doesn't make too much sense from a monetary investment point of view.
A hobby is a hobby for sure, but I'm just wondering if there are other Amiga enthusiasts that feel like me: would like a "fancier" Amiga and in a position where buying NEW hardware would actually be cheaper & yield more computing power vs. dumping $$$ into old hardware.

The MK1 has never been as attractive as the MKII/III, and don't fetch as good a price. Also too big to fit A3k.
-
Speaking of fitting A3k... (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=38851) ;-)

My main machine in my avatar has been reliably using the ferocious looking MKI for years
:-D

When put together the mk1 looks like: Cyberstorm MK1 (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=234)
It's a bit unstable if not seated correctly.

It will work in a A3k, as long as the following is followed:
1 - You have a tower
2 - You can live with your A3k having no lid if it's in the native case.
3 - If it's towered make sure to provide plenty of support/mounting points.
(I *USED* to have a MK1 in my towered A3k... Untill part of the MK1 went south for the winter  )

Excellent! I was actually considering removing my beauty and taking a photo :-D

Easy : It lack the scsi cable and spacers !!
Whatever, it's a bit too much, i had a complete A4000D equiped with the same card for 300 € last year, H+S included...

An alternative answer to the original question:
Maybe because the seller just bought this CS MK2 for a whole lot less?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260307488364
$399 is way too much for an MKI IMHO.
-
Did the MKII have the SCSI option, documentation, etc.? Then it's kind of like trying to compare apples and oranges. The MKII was for an A3000 which the MKI won't work in. I'm kinda shocked you're worried about my things I buy and not bidding your $20 for ReDrum's Ramsey 07. Oh, maybe because it's already over $100. Duh, stupid me.

The spacers that are missing are the same as are on the A3640 that you would be taking out to replace with the MKI. The other spacers are included. The SCSI cable is a generic cable that can be picked up online for next to nothing. I wouldn't say that these items are deal killers by any means.
The original price I was asking for this accelerator was a break even price for me. It is now being listed for a price that has me taking a loss. If I can't get what I am now asking I will just keep it and the 67 people that were watching it the first time I listed it can just continue running a slower Amiga.
The reason I am selling it is because I had the motherboard go bad on the A4000 I was going to put it in. I am not interested in getting another A4000 to use this in as my interests at this time are more with A3000,s and A2000's which the MKI won't fit in. I have an A4000D that I am planning on selling in the future and other than that I only have A4000T's which are already 060 machines. I just don't need the MKI.

I spent big bucks for 060 card and Amiga graphics card a couple of years ago;enough to pay for SAM 44ep AND AmigaOS4.1 and nice dinner !
Today for best performance for $ in Amiga Sam looks more sensible than spending the same amount on old hardware.
My thought on PPC upgrade cards is also silly to pay more than half the price of SAM .
-
It might be silly to pay more than half the price of SAM, but then SAM ain't an Amiga & 4.1 will not run on Classic!
Then again, after you've gone & bought OS4 for your Classic Amiga, wtf are you gunno do with it anyway? It's absolutely useless @ doing anything other than Booting to Desktop!

I'm shocked that you, Danny, so much as would write something like this with such shallow accusations.
First of all I was never worried. Nor am I now...
Second of all, it's a free market and I chose to privately "bid" $20 here on A.org for your Ramsey07 because you bought it for that much on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230300884050 and because we all know that names are mangled in the auction pages, for those wanting to verify this just check out for the item ID (230300884050) here: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&ftab=FeedbackAsBuyer&userid=dannyp3903&iid=-1&de=off&items=200&page=2 - you might have to scroll a couple pages because Danny is a busy boy and tada: Danny's indeed our buyer) and especially considering the fact that you TOLD ME it didn't work for you as per your private mails. I was offering to basically wipe out your expenditures: as if it hadn't cost you anything to just try out the chip.
Third and most importantly, you forgot before writing your failed diatribe that I have all your private mails to prove how YOU KNEW FULL WELL that your Ramsey07 DID NOT WORK, yet you listed it on ebay along with all those other chips (perhaps using all those other chips as "smoke") for $120 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200271435548) and later for $100 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200285033915), and without saying a single word about the Ramsey07's condition in the auction description. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Bad boy Danny. Bad boy.
So, please, don't try to play smart with me and tell me that I tried to shaft you only because I offered you what you paid for (and if you recall... oh wait, you might not! But I do! Because I have the mail: I offered to give you twice as much) a well known non-working chip, while you tried to sell it "as-is" and "uncertain of their condition".
