Looks like his rating of 80% is about to get another schelacking! lol.
-
Saw it a couple of days ago & just couldn't be arsed!
Ya gotta laugh!
-
Um, sorry to break it to you guys but this is a video toaster, but not for the Amiga as his title says.
This is the NT version for Windows...
-
That board is a Video Toaster. It is a NewTek VT[4] PCI card for a PC running Windows.
-
Yes indeedy that's a WinTel Toaster. I clearly remember when NewTek started selling these. It was soo strange that they'd "betray" the Amiga like that :-(
But business is business.
-
can it work in PAL 50 Hz mode, or is it locked in NTSC 60 HZ mode ?
-
@ nine3o, save2600 & CLS2086
I don't think we were discussing the fact of it NOT being a "Video Toaster" in it's own right.
We were discussing the fact it is NOT an "Amiga Video Toaster", as is IS advertised! ;-)

Good Wordage! :-D
-
Um ...well if this is a NewTek product I'm shocked at the poor build quality..
and whats with the simm chip? and the obvious jumper/repair wire to the left of the "This Way Up" board..
haha

Yeah, it's a Windows toaster from back in the day.
But the auction is screwed.
Of course the title says "Video Toaster Amiga"
But then later in the auction it says,
"will only aide in getting the drivers and card working in windows"
So he knows it's for Windows but advertises as Amiga anyway???
Then above the pictures it says,
"Will be able to Supply Video Toaster 1.0 Software"
Then below the pictures it says,
I will be shipping the Item with a copy of Video Toaster 4.5
So maybe he just mean you get both 1.0 and 4.5?? Just strange he say one thing and then later another. Like above auctioning as Amiga then clearly saying he knows it for Windows.
-
you can report it for having a misleading title if you want.

Eh, Some one already bid the opening price of $25. The guy put a buy it now price of $400.
Hopefully, people will realize it's a shakey deal and the guy that already bid knows it for Windows and ends of just getting it for $25 bucks. :-)

I think it's alliteration, but could be wrong. :)

Or how about 'verbiage' :-)

I wouldn't say that NewTek betrayed the Amiga. They made a smart decision to develop for the pc marketbecause they sy that the Amiga market was going to plumet. I do belive that NewTek still does repair on Amiga VT cards.

Sorry but that is not how I read the title "A new type of Vidoe Toaster?" and the comments from Vlabguy1
I tried several times as well as sending him a web link to Altera. He still does not get it..
I read this as the device being sold is not a video toaster. Either way we agree that this is NOT a video toaster for the Amiga and the seller is misleading. :-)
-
I did send him a link to ALtera..and yes his auction is very misleading..and that aside..if he listed correctly he might get more bids.
It looked like some sort of embedded computer on a card..with the memory chip attached and the repair/mod/or jumper wire soldered across the chips..
Must be a very early Toaster for PC card..does not look like NewTek quality ..
People really think NewTek betrayed Amiga? I personally don't think that is the case. They did what they had to do in order to survive. Don't they still service Amiga Toaster&Flyer cards?
If by some miracle NewTek decides to get back into the Amiga biz again Im sure plenty of people will welcome them with open arms.. :-).
just my take..

Hey NewTek..purchase the Amiga(is it forsale?) and built a killer digital video/ image editing work station..hehe..

Good Grief!!!
Betray??
Newtek was supposed to go out of business just because Commodore mismanaged the Amiga into bankruptcy?
Newtek did the smart, reasonable, and moral thing:they developed a product using their expertise for the vast standard market. They stayed in business ,which was good for their employees and chose to still recognize and support legacy products. I have Newtek Windows PC hardware, too.
Business is about making money ,not just making a few hobbyists happy.
-
Well to be fair..at the time of the Commodore demise and even a few years after there were more than a few people still using the Amiga/Toaster/Flyer combo professionally.. so I would hardly call them hobbyists..
Today on the other hand the professional use of the Amiga has diminished radically to say the least. Im sure there are sum that still use it to make money..along side other machines. :-).

But at that point all those likely to use an Amiga/Toaster already had one,and Newtek had to move to PC or go under.
Too bad Newtek couldn't/didn't take over the Amiga. If they had,we 'd be using the Newtek Icebox, the world's coolest computer with AmigaOS 6.5 running on a dual 2gHz PPC and AGA4.
-
mmm..well not necessarily.. I didn't not get my Toaster/Flyer sometime after..and Im sure there were some new comers to the Amiga Toaser/Flyer even after the fall of Commodore..sure not in the masses..but some.
And as I have heard ..even with VT5..there are somethings that the Amiga T/F set-up does better. Not sure though, as I have not used a VT5.

This is the current version:
So I take it that it is an older version than this?

Yes, Newtek still repairs Amiga Video Toasters.
