Is there anything I need to do to get a BVision working under OS4? I selected it as the gfx card when I installed the OS, but when I boot from the installed OS it opens on a 31KHz PAL screen and no BVision screenmodes are available. Any ideas?

Did the installer fail to copy :Storage/Monitors/BVision to Devs:Monitors/BVision?
-
No, BVision is in DEVS:Monitors.

I've just done a fresh install of OS4. After the recommended cold boot I had no GFX card screenmodes as you are reporting. This was because the driver in Devs/Monitors was not set up properly. It was the driver in Storage/Monitors which had all the GFX card screenmodes listed in its tooltype.
I suggest that you try moving the driver that is now in Devs/Monitors elsewhere, and put the driver of the same name from Storage/Monitors into Devs/Monitors, as it solved the problem for me.
(A reboot then took me straight into 800x600 16bit)

That worked! Thanks!
:pint:
Now that this machine is all working I have a difficult decision to make...

Well, what the hell is it you teaser :lol:

I think you know what you have to do! ***Unibody*** :crazy:

What do you think of OS4 moto?
To me it was a bit like a bare windoze installtion at first and I didn't feel like it could really do anything (I'm probably wrong though as I haven't really looked at it - I was just pleased to finally own it and be able to run it whenever I wanted to). I then started to enjoy getting things like Dopus4 and ToolsDaemon to work. Then I got side tracked by other interests until I saw that you were trying to give it a go, and through a stroke of luck this week a mate gave me an 18GB HDD which plugged perfectly onto my PPC (Dunno why but I hated the thought of using converters on my CSPPC and my ACARD is still in the box). No WHDload is a pain if you love games of course, but it doesn't matter if you have another Amiga on OS3.9 :-)

Yes, I'm considering it! I went in to the Apple Store today and had another play... Very tempted, and I can get 14% off!

I haven't used it yet. I'm hoping to get some time to myself tomorrow to have a play.

That's fine with me. I'd rather it was a black box OS than have loads of stuff installed which I don't want and therefore need to remove!

Yes, the lack of classic 68k support is very disappointing. Since my Amiga use is now limited solely to retro gaming, I probably won't keep hold of this stuff. It's really nice to see OS4 up and running, but realistically I probably won't ever use it.

Any ideas how I add a screenmode in OS4? I can only go up to 800x600 currently. I tried adding a mode to the tooltypes of the monitor but it still won't show up in ScreenMode prefs.

I've not really had time to play with my new Unibody MBP yet (other than a few stolen moment before bed)... as my old MBP is now dedicated to Live music work, and I've been in rehearsals near constantly... But the new machines are damn fine!!!!
I'm seriously considering selling my BlizzPPC + BVision... I have no real use for them and I'm sure someone here would love the chance to use them.

Me too, and I'm wondering the same thing.

you have to set the max H and V sync values (accordingly with your monitor spec)
mine with a 17" TFT are:
VSYNCMIN=56
VSYNCMAX=76
HSYNCMIN=30000
HSYNCMAX=85000
MODE=640x480@60
MODE=800x600@60
MODE=1024x768@60
MODE=1280x1024@60
INTERRUPT=No
-
I did try adding "MODE=1024x768@60" in to the tooltypes but it didn't shop up in ScreenMode prefs. Is there anything else I need to do?

I also added these:-
MODE=1024x768@60
MODE=1280x1024@60
INTERRUPT=NO
but just got the options twice for 800x600. I have no idea what figures to put for
VSYNCMIN=
VSYNCMAX=
HSYNCMIN=
HSYNCMAX
as I don't have a manual for my approx 15" Compaq MV520 monitor.

@amiga4000_mad
Found this info (http://ftp.uniroma2.it/Digital/compaq/interactivetraining/mv520.pdf) about the MV520.
After reading it I think you should enter the following:
VSYNCMIN=50
VSYNCMAX=100
HSYNCMIN=31500
HSYNCMAX=54000

So would getting the frequencies wrong stop the screenmode from showing up?

@Moto
Maybe this thread at amigans.net (http://amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=2051&forum=3) is of any help?
-
Yes, the lack of classic 68k support is very disappointing.
some software does work nice, like DiskMaster (68K version)
and, IIRC, CED..
besides you can always dualboot for games.
-
there are plenty of 68K apps working under AOS4.
Old games apart, theres nothing i can recall, that stopeed working.

yep indeed. anyway you can use Picasso96Mode if you prefer it (native as well)
-
Out of curiosity, what the INTERRUPT tooltype is about? Is it P96 or OS4 specific?
-

I assume it is about the VBL, on or off :-)
-
Whether or not to keep it!
it seems unfair to sell what you got as a gift (IIRC)..

I've now got 1024x768 16bit
@ moto
I had to manually change the circled figures from 800x600 to 1024x768. You might want to try that too :-)

@a4000_mad
Glad it works.
@Moto

If the screenmode you specified is not within the range of the frequencies you entered (and that your monitor can handle), then indeed the screenmodes won't show up.

I did try that, but it left the actual resolution at 800x600 but gave me 1024x768 overscan.

I'll check the frequencies for my monitor and try setting them to what they should be and report back!

Well, most of my Amiga use these days is WHDLoad. So I'm not really sure what I'll use OS4 for. I'm open to suggestions :-)

I also had 1024x768 in a small window in the middle of the monitor screen, and wondered what the hell was going on :lol: I had to press the adjustment button on the front of my monitor. Then had to use the one that stretches the screen wider. But then my AmigaOS4 backdrop didn't look right, so went into WBPattern and changed 'Tile' to 'Scale well'.

naaa! enable both the Default checkboxes and you will get the resolution centered and filling the whole screen!

D'oh! Thanks :-D
-
Just added the correct frequencies in to the monitor tooltypes and I can now use higher resolutions. Cheers! :-D
