There is alot of things going on with AROS. USB massstorage by the best Doctor in the world, Dr Schulz.(Please don't leave AROS) and a hole range of other projects is moving fast forward.
I just thought I post this about the icons because this may not be the biggest structural thing but it made me very glad. It will make AROS very much more Amiga. The surface and the impression is equally important as the under the hood mechanics.
Thanks everyone on AROS you are great.

I love Ken's icons!
-
Oh my god, finally...
The Gorilla Icons were so hideous, it's hard to believe this hasn't happened earlier..
One point for AROS here...
:-D

I wish there were more news updates about AROS. Is anything major on the way? UAE integration?
-
Thats good news, as I like Ken's icons. What took them soooo long. :-)

Just been over to AROS exec and there have been three news items in one day!!!! OMG!!

@tonyyeb
They don't update the news so much with the on going interesting things that's discussed in the forums.
That's why I couldn't constrain my self from writing this post.

The REALLY interesting stuff happens on the dev list... Feel free to read the digests :-)
-
Doe this means that Kens icons and theme will be default for AROS?
Because I simply "hate" that gorilla icons theme. They are so childish to me...
-
Does AROS support on-the-fly scaling of icons?
Ken's icons are beautifully painted, however those using laptops or smaller displays may not appreciate the large size.
Cheers,
James

Why can't someone just post nice little summaries on a site rather than many people having to read through digests that may not conatin anything of any interest to general users?

Here are some right things to point out:
1. I started integrating Ken's icons in my local AROS sources only, and after some initial problems I succeeded in compiling everything fine. Ken's icons work, at least.
2. I am personally doing this task for VmwAROS only, since changing the default AROS theme is not something I have the rights to do. Expect to find them in VmwAROS, someday.
3. As far as I know, AROS nightlies aren't going to use Ken's Icons, at least not until they will be released with a proper licencing model which would allow AROS to use them without any possible legal issue. And, obviously, most AROS developers should agree with this change.

1. No, ATM
2. Large size? 46x46 pixel icons shouldn't be an issue for any laptop/little monitor. Gorilla icons are much much bigger than Ken's ones (the littlest one is 64x64 pixel big).

Hi Paolone
Sorry for not getting it right.
I got too exited.
Best regards

I made some important progress here. Please look at this screenshot (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_73lLV6srqwY/SRVYoysEEEI/AAAAAAAAAMk/C9akUdUsQRc/s1600-h/kensicons3.PNG).
Ken Lester is helping me and the new look we're giving to VmwAROS is awesome.

How good does that look?!?! Nice :-D

This is going to look so good. I'm looking forward to the next release. Thank you for your work with vmwaros and thank you Ken Lester.

@Lorraine
To run an Amiga OS natively on a PC using it for everyday tasks with backward compatibility, that is appealing to me.
-
Have seen them on a blue background and it looks very nice.

The AROS Homepage (http://aros.sourceforge.net/) has fairly regular status updates covering much of the progress! Last on was OCt 22nd.
And The AROS Show (http://arosshow.blogspot.com/) has a bit more information and more regular!! When hes not too busy! :-)

I wish they integrated MWB instead :)
There are lots of MWB icons on Aminet and the original package is of great quality.
-
AROS is bound to have an icon changer in the future. A god thing would be if screen shots of the packs could be uploaded here.
http://www.amiga-look.org/
and a link to the pack, so you could browse the icon packs. Aminet is invaluable but you have to manually test out the icon packs.
As for the “standard icons” on AROS I feel Kens is a good choice. They feel like a continuation to me.
With an icon changer you could go for a retro look with both menus windows and icons.
:-)
