Booting TOS to the WOM.
EDIT:
Changed the link to a english news-page.

Is a emulator of some sort?. I heard about chameleon, but it was not much usable.
More info, please.
-
That's pretty cool. I imagine it wasn't too difficult to get it working though since the Atari didn't have the custom chipset of an Amiga. That's why we never saw an Amiga emulator running on an Atari. It didn't have the horsepower to emulate all of the Amiga custom chips with just a lowly 68K processor. I suppose someone could have made an add-on board with the Amiga custom chips on it, transplanted it on the Atari and then wrote an emulator....but why bother? It would just be cheaper and easier to buy an Amiga!
-
That is cool, I wonder if we can download KICKTOS for the A1000?
-
Yeah, I bet you could even run it under WinUAE.....think about it, an Amiga emulator on Windows emulating an Atari....freaky! But I like it!
-
Hi,
congrats !!!
What are the limitations ?
Can you get colors and sound ?
-
Colormode might work, not tested.
There is no sound emulation.
(it should be more entertaining, if you hear some radio beside, instead of *piep piep* sound)
remember .. its a only techdemo .. useless funstuff!
btw. changed the link from the first posting

My A1000 says that she wants to run this... :-D
-
So does mine! Would be fun just to try!

yes ! We want !
Also is there anything that would stop this working on A500/600/2000 ? Any hardbinded RAM configration needed ?

I do remember an Atari ST emulator running on my Amiga 500, and this could also only emulate b/w (also high-res IIRC), and no sound.
-
The emulators of Atari ST I have seen for the classic Amigas emulate only B&W ST without sound, but some programs are useful under them even B&W games. I think the Atari Sim City was playable on Amiga. Bad about these emulators are that they don't multitask like ShapeShifter and Fusion, so you have to reboot if you want to use some simple Atari Tools, or just to check something under Atari. Having multitasking emulator of ST for Amiga is in better use, than rebooting the A1000.
-
I used to play Atari ST Sim City on my Ami (in full color) back in the day. I'm sure it would have worked much better running natively on the Ami/Tos. hehehe.
I'm anxiously awaiting this to be released. :}

After the 192kb TOS image that leaves just 64kb for the hard coded emulator. There is a distinct advantage in that if it ever is fully emulated (IIRC needs keyboard and sound emulation and some memory mapping stuff) your program can not crash into the TOS or emulator code.
I don't think 64kb is enough to get it full working much beyond this tech demo. Colour graphics screens require a different address method too than the Amiga 4 bit plane (for 16 colours) method so most emulators stick to mono 640x400 single bit plane as then there is no conversion required before writing to the screen. And emulating the Yamaha chip would take a bit of oomph too but I could live without the sound on most stuff.
Google says it is in the ST4Amiga section of Aminet apparently. Not checked as I have no way to get them onto a real disk for my A1000.
Shame, it's a commendable bit of coding, very clever and all credit to them.

BLASPHEMY, Plain and udder Blasphemy. :-P
-
No it's pwnage...could a 520ST which boots from TOS disks emulate an Amiga with a modified A1000 Kickstart disk and a bit of code? :-P
-
Sorry to bump an old thread, but did the KICKTOS floppy image ever get released? I can't seem to find any further information about it online, and I'd love to play with it. :D
-
Big YES, and you can get it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/emutos/files/emutos/

are you sure? emutos is a tos replacement for the Atari ST.

EmuTOS is like AROS replacement ROM for Amiga.
You can run clean Atari ST software on Amiga using the EmuTOS in B&W screenmode, and KickTOS is a just a Kickstart version of the EmuTOS.
