Is it just me or is this game really annoying? I really want to like it, but it's just too bloody hard to be enjoyable!

You've been toying too long with your Mac,
Today's computer users/gamers are such wussies
Ah yes, the good old days, when ships were made of wood and men of iron :-P

Well, I was also playing some T-Zer0 and Rick Dangerous II and they weren't so bad, but ABII seemed ridiculously hard. I have never played it before so maybe I just need to get the hang of it.

Well, they said the same about Prince of Persia, but I think that game is really perfectly playable.
One game I thought was really hard was Cybernoid 2 (with the cool music ;-)) But then again; hey, it's a game, you should be challenged, it should be hard :-)

Prince of Persia was another one where I got to a certain point and could never get past it no matter how many times I tried. And starting from the beginning every time was so infuriating that I have up. Yes games should be hard enough to challenge you, otherwise they're no fun. But when they're so hard that you get bored, then I think they're too hard.

Eh? The hardest part was in level 8, after that, I've never had any problems with it...

Well that seperates the men from the boys.......
boys have enough time to start over and over again

I've got (or had, haven't seen them lately) most of the Alien Breed games. As far as I remember ABII was by far the worst. Try Tower Assault it's much better.
Cheers,
Rudi.

Can't remember whether I got that far. Which bit was it?

I don't have time for that any more :-(

Worst in that it's not such a good game, or just that it's the hardest? Will give Tower Assault a try anyway - cheers!

er, maybe two player mode is easier. IIRC, you can even share health and ammo. anyway, its more fun

Well, at level 7 you fall back in the lower regions of the castle.
At the beginning of level 8 you need to fight a guy who does not take the initiative to go to you, which makes it a lot harder to defeat him. At the end of that level, a mouse steps on a switch to open a door for you.

Me neither... :-(
If I replay games which seemed to me easy in the past, are quite hard now.

Sounds like a plan! However, unfortunately my other half is not interested in games :-( Though we did come home half-cut last night and have fun playing House Of The Dead on the Wii :-D

I know the bad guy you mean, but I don't remember a mouse stepping on a switch so I can't have got that far. Maybe it's time to set the A1200 up again and have another try! Did you ever complete PoP?

Play Zorro. Its always heartfilling to play it through without dying. I think my record is playing it through a dozen times without dying. Now that game had difficulty set in correct level :)
-
There's no info on that game on HOL :-? Mind you, it's not games in general that I find hard - I just think ABII is perversely difficult!

Certainly! :-D
A couple of times
It's really worthwhile replaying it. It hasn't lost it's vibe. :-)

Assuming you don't die, how easy is it to finish it within the hour? Did you ever get close to the end and run out of time?

AB2 is hard, but if you play alongside a friend it makes it easier IIRC.
Rude!

It's a long time ago, but I can't remember such a frustration.
The only thing I was bad at were those blasted guillotines. I played Prince of Persia on the pc, and the pc speaker made those things sound even more vicious :nervous:

The difficulty level renders the game no fun whatsoever. I like a challenge but not a game that just feels completely unfair. Another Team 17 game that had this problem was Project X. I became friends with this guy last year who says that he completed it without dying! I asked him whether it was the original ultra tough 4 disk version and apparently it was! What a hero/nutter depending on how you look at it
Cheers,
Rudi.

Alien Breed II is one of the rare amiga arcade games I've finished without cheatcodes. I have to admint that I spent hours on it I was 16 and I didn't always do my homework... I think it's hard but fair. In fact it's all about picking the right weapon at the right moment, and also you have to really know the maps by heart, pick the keys in the right order and use the computers to see the whole maps. The worst is the destruction sequence you really don't have time to get lost on the way to the exit.
I was never able to finish tower assault by the way. Alien Breed 3D I think I've almost finished it was ugly but fun. And the 3DII was much too difficult and too slow for me.
On Project X I also spent hours it is much more difficult I always died at the boss of the second level.
