The floppy disk is screwed. You'll have to download a new version on ADF and write a new disk?

I am booting from the hard drive

A little more about hw and sw would help...
An Amiga with HD and FFS can be fixed on under 4 GB border with DiskSalv (or equivalent), over 4 GB area just with Diskmontools. I think KS 2.x is required except with very old versions of DiskSalv.

I use the program ValidateWait (link (http://aminet.net/package/util/cli/ValidateWait)) in my startup-sequence.
If the partition needs to validate itself because of some problem then this program forces the startup to wait until the validation process is complete.
The easiest way to fix a checksum error, provided it's not a hard error causing it - is to find the offending file and copy over a fresh version of it.
