Nice to meet all you A.org regula's! I had a blast and would do it again. Next year, I'm gonna bring my A1200 down! :pancake: I came home with a MiniMig and a Competition Pro joystick..
Don't even ask me why i was playing R-Type in the car on the way home with a 19" LCD and keyboard and mouse hooked up in the car.... :) That is just crazy! :lol:

I had a great time, been years since I been to one. Rummaged through SACC pile-o-goddies a couple of times. Wanted to get one of those Indivision units for my A1200, but I spent way too much earlier on a PicassoIV and other hardware.
Glad it's just over the "hill" for me. Almost a 3 hour drive... Not sure that I meet everyone, but I was the most all the day. Thanks to da9000 for attempting to recap one of my A3640s. I owe him a few $ for the caps eventough the board is bad.
I'll be planning a bit earlier next year and maybe bring down a few of my Amigas and hardware collection for display.

It was definitely a good show. Though next year, I will get my azz out of bed a little earlier and show up before 2:00. I didn't buy anything this time, and I WAS trying to watch the spending a bit... until T3000 got me riled up enough on the PIV to finally break down and get one today. :D
Nice to meet some of the amiga.org brothas, definitely a friendly bunch. The Amigakit crew are also absolutely first class dudes. It was also cool to chat a bit with Jens, and discover why borderblank works on the Indivision, and why it didn't on my old DCE unit. :) Good times.

That Dell LCD of mine you were playing on is a 20" thank you, and YES, playing games on a MiniMig traveling at 75mph down the highway is CRAZY! At least you weren't the driver at the same time. :lol:
Even though the trip has caused me to lose a day (so far) to increased back pain, it was worth it to meet everyone and share some fun Amiga time. I still don't know how Jens and Matthew and the ten or so other people from the dinner after the show ended up in my hotel room until midnight on Saturday. Great fun and a BIG thanks to da9000 again for his hard work replacing caps on my A4000 and A1200.
More of you simply must make it to AmiWest next year.

"because i can" is a good enough reason. :-P

I wonder if the guys that came all the way from England/Europe way to sell things made enough money for it to be worth it.
I didn't go. Was there someone there still trying to sell that last copy of AmipornOS? For some reason I think that there's one copy of it that someone keeps bringing to Amiga shows and nobody ever buys it. Or, if they do buy it, they're at the next Amiga show trying to get rid of it.

Anyone got pics?

I am tempted to head down one year, but it is a long distance... I guess I am waiting for something big....
Does anyone have a audio & video on the presentations and speeches?
:)

This year's AmiWest was really excellent!
It was great meeting many of you guys from the forum. Shout outs to: pan1k + amigadave + omicron, T3000, -D- and of course big thanks to AmigaKit, Matthew, and Jens for sponsoring the show for us!
@T3000:
Heh, I tried! But it probably was a zombie to begin with :-( We'll figure out a solution somehow now that we've got contact. Hopefully you'll climb down from the mountains to our valley someday :-D
@amigadave:
You're welcome and thanks for the offer to hunt some bear down there at the Big Bear Lake :-) It was great meeting and hanging out with you and your rag-tag SoCal Amiga crew and hope to meet up again! Now that fully re-capped A4000 & A1200 will live FOREVER!!! (ok I hope - don't forget to do the vinegar deal and wash'em off).
@-D-:
You definitely need to work on your waking up skillz dude! I thought you were insane to come and go in a matter of hours! And you missed the afterhours "let's all cram in a single room" party! Hehe!
@weirdami:
Selling 4 Sam440s would probably cover it :-) And anyhow, some of them (Jens and crew) made a vacation out of it, doing a lot of traveling around the western US, so it was more than just the show.
@sdyates:
You ought to! There was another Canadian, from Vancouver, this year.
As for presentations/videos/photos/podcasts, I'm sure they'll surface. For one, RobertB was recording, so bug him, but also Tekmage might have something (although he had a little problem with some of the recordings due to limited power on his equipment). I know there were a lot of people taking photos, so they'll hopefully surface soon!

Ah mate, I wish I could have been there, been ages since I been to a decent Amiga event. Definitely next year I will be there with wads of cash mowhahaha ...
-
How many people were there this year? Was attendance up from last year? I watched some of the talks via tekmage's video stream which worked properly this year.

@Hans:
definitely more than last year - I didn't count, but also more interesting people (read: A.org people, hehehe). Definitely better than last year's!

SACC President Brian said that there were 55-60 people this year, up from last year.

I went this year! It was shockingly fun. I felt like the little Bee girl in the Blind Melon video.... :P
Since I live in Sacramento I decided to just show up randomly and try to get in for the banquet. I brought an accomplice who accredits herself with having the ability to get into "any show". Lucky for us no ulterior tactics were required! Just paid and went right in. SWEET!
I met lots of fun people including a coworker at the major CPU manufacturer who I’m not aloud to mention online. :P That was neat.
I have also been entirely obsessed with my Amiga 2000 ever since the show. I’ve got the thing up and going with a Buddha/Catweasel gen 0.0000001 card. Works great!
I also built up an HP5700 Thin Client with a power-on Amiga build. Just flip on the power switch, and it boots up Amiga Forever from the hard drive. Pretty nifty!
wait.. is this my first post? Hi! I'm Rik. :D

Some pictures please from Amiwest 08... anyone?

The coolest thing I got at AmiWest was the outside box cover to the PicassoII. Which is kinda ironic because I had just accquired a PicassoIV before the show and was going to put the PII away after the transplant. The box cover was the last of the PII items I had been piecing together over the years. First I got the card for like $50. Then a month later, the cable and original software. $10. Quite a few months later, the manuals for the PII, Main Actor, TVPaint jr. and the box. Free. All from different sources. Well, now that the PIV transplant has been done, the PicassoII is wrapped, and boxed with all it's components, tucked up on the self for safe keeping. :-D
