Hey everyone,
My 4000T continues to give me grief. I am trying to install MUI so I can then get the Genesis Wizard to run. OK, I have installed MUI several times, using mui38usr.lha from Aminet. When I try to run any MUI app except the MUI Prefs, and SonPlayer, I get 'Unable to create MUI application'. I checked my user-startup, it seems OK, I do get the extra MUI buttons showing up in SongPlayer, but no other MUI apps work... Weird..
Secondly, out of laziness, I thought I could just copy over the OS3.9 install from my A1200T, as that had MUI and Genesis working... Bad idea... The workbench.library on the 4000T is special, isn't it?
So, anyone install OS 3.9 on a 4000T? Any possible issues I should worry about? I didn't want to try a full install from the OS3.9 CD because I remember how hard it was to get working....my 1200T choked on the AmigaDOS ROM update, iirc.
Does the OS3.9 install handle the special workbench.library correctly?
Sorry for the rambling post... My Specs.
A4000T, CS Mk-III '060, OS3.1, 146MB RAM (or so) 4GB SCSI HDD, 2 SCSI HDD about 500MB or so, Teac SCSI CD-rom, Yamaha SCSI CD-R, Toaster4000, Flyer, PAR, TBC 4, Flyer drives all in external powered enclosures. Software, pretty close to stock, DOpus 4.12, NewIcons 4.
Any help would be great...

Regarding the MUI problem: There could be several causes.
Maybe the troubling applications use special mui classes that you must install first. Or maybe the screenmode you use is too small. It could be a missing library etc. etc.
As for workbench.library: The a4000T only used a special workbench.library with Os3.1. The a4000D and a1200 had workbench.library in ROM, but with the A4000T it couldn“t fit in rom, so with OS3.1 there was a special disk based version of workbench.library especially for the a4000t. With os3.5 and 3.9 all amigas use a diskbased version of workbench.library, so there is no special version anymore for the a4000t.

Hi Mozzerfan: Thanks for the advice. It's odd though, after by failed attempt to install 3.9, I couldn't get the 4000T to boot at all, even from a floppy....

Well if it didn't boot even from floppy there must be some other problem. If you get your system to run 3.1 again, you can try a clean install of 3.9. I'm 100% sure there is no special version of 3.9 for the a4000T. If you're afraid that the romupdate will choke your 4000t then don't install it. IIRC during installation you're asked if you want to install the romupdate or not. Be sure to make a backup of uyour current config though.
