Title: The US scene
Post by: carls on August 28, 2003, 11:36:17 PM
Any US people here active on the scene? I just discovered the homepage of Pilgrimage (http://pilgrimage.scene.org (http://pilgrimage.scene.org)) which states that the party lasted less than 24 hours! Watching some pictures from the event (here... (http://www.scene.org/dir.php?dir=%2Fparties%2F2003%2Fpilgrimage03%2Fpics/)) it seems like few of the visitors brought hardware with them.

Is this common practice on US demo parties or was it just because it was so heavily sponsored (no entrance fee - which is both good and bad IMHO) and the sponsors couldn't stay awake? :-)

ROFL that looks like no scene party I've seen before, it looks more like the school chess club meeting.

A couple of dozen smartly dressed men sitting in an immaculate room with immaculate white tablecloths typing on their immaculate $2000 laptops, and not a single C64 to be seen.

The only American scener I know of is Jessikaa but she doesnt actually "do" anything in the scene that I'm aware of (code/gfx/ascii/music...) she's just "there".

I don't really know why it is that the USA doesn't have a scene like we do in Europe (they even call demos "EuroDemos" over there, like its a Europe-specific thing).

You Europeans, with your euroscene and your euro and your euro....rythmics

Demos are fun actually, I just not on 'scene'

I don't think there is much of a scene over here,
especially an amiga one. Back in the "days" it
seemed most of the demos and other goodies came
straight from Europe...there were "stateside"
productions and whatnot but very few (and I call
them just demos not eurodemos;)

That looked pretty retarded for a "scene" party..
one day I hope to make it across for a "real"
scene event...or at least something I think
would be more my taste. Beer instead of bottled
"spritzer" water, hot Scandinavian women/etc:-D

Well, it was held in Utah. That kind of says it all, doesn't it? ;-)  No offense meant to Utahns, but the place isn't exactly the home of the radical fringe. But you've gotta give them credit for putting the event together, even if in their own unique 'style'.  :-)

Yes, I live in the USA, but I am a British citizen.  I have been heavily involved with computers since 1977, so yes I AM part of "the scene"!  The Amiga and Atari ST computers are still my favorite even though I also have a very nice Pentium 4 PC that I custom built from scratch.     :-D

You'll probably be wanting to run AROS on that P4

@doommaster
Excellent - feel free to give a comparison between the US and European scene, it would be very interesting!

You're welcome. Although you'll have to find the women yourself :-)

Wait Utah is not part of the E.U.??? They ski there, have demo parties, etc.. Sounds a lot like the E.U. to me! We don't have such things in Michigan (at least so far).. By the way I am a red white, blond and blue born here All American Boy who is also a DEMOCRAT!

<< Liberal Violins Playing>>

Why doesn't the U.S. and the E.U. just merge... Radical idea huh?
