Title: How to destroy a buddha board in one easy step
Post by: blanning on October 08, 2008, 04:32:44 AM
Just connect the (unkeyed) clock port connector (that doesn't have pin 1 marked) to a catweasel (that doesn't have circuitry that protects against this) backwards. :-(

Of course, incorrect installations aren't covered by the warranty.  And it would have been nice to have a manual that clearly shows the orientation.

I guess I'll hook the catweasel up to my 1200 motherboard when the roms arrive.  Hopefully I didn't kill that also.

Not having a fun night with the amiga.

I feel your pain. I just got my Buddha, How hard is it to include or post a flippin manual some where?  :madashell: Looking for a brand new A4000 Tower for free is easier than hunting down a flippin manual for it. Individual Computers has really dropped the ball on a really good product. :madashell:

Yes Individual Computers make some really nice well engineered product but their website really sucks. :-?

And as such its a lot harder than it should be to find documentation and driver updates for their products.

I am not a website designer but I could easily create a more professional better structured website myself.

I this day and age you expect finding the documentation for your hardware to be as simple as going to the manufactures website and first selecting the product you have then selecting the documentation and driver updates from the products web page.  With Individual Computers you have to search their news section and hope you find a link for updates or downloads for your product.

I have been having problems getting SID chips working in my Catweasel mk4 PCI and finding and documentation to help me work out why I am not getting any sound after a driver upgrade is very hard.

I suggest you e-mail Jens. He is very helpful and is willing to offer support to all his users.

I dont think there is anything wrong with their website. It is slightly old looking, not so web 2.0. But it does its job relatively well.

About the Buddha situation: Been there done that, at least IC earned money for a new Buddha Flash from me

OK You goto the products page http://www.jschoenfeld.com/products/products_e.htm from the link at the side and try and find the current versions of and of the products.

The website has not been updated in years other than just adding to the news page.

All I am wishing for is an update to the main products part of the site and links to the current drivers and documentation.

I like the design its self its simple and effective it the content that needs updating.  Adding a search option would also be helpful.

I'd rather Jens spent his time developing new products!

I feel any product is only as good as the support provided with it and creating a web page for new products as they are released is not a big job.

It should save time in the long run as it will result in less support requests total if all the info is in the one place for each product and free up time Jens as to spend helping people to get his products working.

I have a good number of his products and they are all well designed and of good quality but a number of them were supplied without any documentation in the box and there is little more info about them on the web site either.

@blanning

You have my sympathies.
I destroyed a set of 3.1 roms due to a lack of decent instructions.

Not as costly I suspect as your problem but still annoying.

i did a set of roms aswell. silly mistake on my part. really shouldn't do hardware changes at 3 in the morning! :-D

again, sympathies about the budda. i must admit, i was a little worried plugging a subway into the clockport card in my A500. double checked, triple checked, and then checked again to make sure i had everything the right way before i switched on. even then i was like "erm... hope i got this right!

The Indivision AGA is a step in the right direction, it is very well marked how it fits the A1200 directly on the circuit board.

I did.  I asked for the correct orientation of the ribbon cable so I don't kill the new one.  He hasn't replied yet, but he's usually very good about replying within a few days.

I sent an email to him asking the orientation before, and also posted the question here, but no response from either.

I'm not really blaming him here.  I was going way too fast and should have been more careful.  The buddha includes a page that warns against putting the board in the zorro slot backwards.  Apparently this fries boards also.  I think this page should have also included a sentence saying which way the clock port connector goes.

I looked at my 1200 motherboard and noticed that pin 1 on the clock port isn't marked there either.

I agree.  But maybe he should appoint someone else to maintain the site, upload pdfs containing the manuals, and all the drivers.  Then he could update his website with the correct info by sending an email with a few attachments.

By the way, does anyone actually have an electronic copy of the buddha manual?  I suspect the new one won't come with a printed manual either (even though the website says it does).

I agree.  I was happy to see that.  The catweasel is very well marked also.  It's just the buddha that isn't.

In spite of that, he responded to my email already.

For the benefit of everyone who searches for this in the future, the red wire on the clock port ribbon cable goes toward the IDE connectors on the buddha.  That is, if you're looking at the component side of the buddha with the zorro connector down, the red wire is on the left toward the front of the case.

There's a picture in the news section where it talks about the delphina.  Here's the link:

http://siliconsonic.de/t/bin/delfina_pictures.zip

This zip contains pictures of various configurations.  Find the one that says clock port.

If someone wants to volunteer to update Jens's website for him, I am sure he'd be willing to listen.

Hi Brian,

goto http://www.e3b.de/usb/main_mounting_e.html

Click the link at "Connection to the Buddha"

and you will download

Subway2BuddhaConnection.pdf

I know its for a Subway, but there is a diagram of a Buddha showing the orientation of the clockport pins and attachment cable.

Kind Regards, Michael
