Title: I just received 30% off of a deneb and an indivision. :-o
Post by: blanning on October 06, 2008, 12:20:48 AM
Executive summary:  If you follow the procedure and you're willing to wait for the money to come back to you, you can get 30% off a lot of items at ebay.  And it appears that red's ebay store qualifies.   :-o

I also have a severe woodworking addition.  And this has been passed around the woodworking forums for a bit.

Here's the catch:  You have to have a microsoft live account.  It's free and doesn't seem to be very intrusive.  I somehow had one already.  You also have to have an ebay and paypal account.  And you have to be willing to wait 60 days for your money to come back to your paypal account.  You can get a check out of paypal later which I think takes 14 days or so.  You're allowed to do this 6 times.  And the discount tops out at $200.

edit:  it appears that it's one item per session also.  So you might want to log out before buying a second item.

You have to follow these steps:

Go to www.live.com.  This is microsoft's new search engine.

You have to type in something to search for that triggers the right banner ad.  I know that typing in "grizzly tools" triggers the right ad.  Other things might work.  But typing in amiga doesn't work.

After the search returns, there's a banner ad at the top for me (it's at the right for some people iirc) that says "Live search cashback.  You may get 30% off with paypal if eligible."  Click on it.

When ebay comes up, make sure there's a green graphic at the top that says Microsoft Cashback.

At ebay, at the top where it says find, change it to amiga.

The second hit is red's indivision, click on it.

Click the "buy it now button".

On the next page, there's a continue button.  Under it says "You will confirm on the next step."  Make sure the green Microsoft Cashback graphic is still there.

The next page should have a box with the same green graphic showing how much you'll get back.  It's $53.33 in this case.

Complete the sale.

In a few minutes, you get a message in your ebay account showing the cashback.  There's a button in the message that connects you to your microsoft live account.

If you click on this button and log into your live account, it will show $0 as your balance!  But this is ok.  They get some notification from ebay stores when the sale completes, this is when the numbers show up there, so fret not.  It might take a couple days.

After the money is there you can request that it be sent to you.  I've not received my money yet because it's too soon for me.  If you'd like to read the woodworking forum thread where people have gotten their money back, here's the link.  It's on slickdeals also.

http://www.forums.woodnet.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=3890163&page=2&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=

Have fun.   :-)

Is this specific to U.S. only or will this work globaly?

Sorry but did not read the thread in the woodworking forum.

I'm not sure, but it's easy to try it out.  Just go through the process and see if the green cashback graphic stays there the whole way through.  Just pay attention and make sure you stop at the right page.  :)

I suspect it will work for any ebay store that ships internationally.

Looks legit, I just tried it out on live.com and ebay buyitnow with out completing the purchase and it says I'm eligible. They've got a mig welder I'd love to get. :-)

I can't find any info on how long this deal is going on. Any one see the expiration date or any thing?

No it works for Amiga items too. You just have to be more specific with the search... like "Amiga 4000" or "Amiga accelerator". I could get 30% off one of Reds auctions right now.  :-o   (If I wanted to)

   That's what I've been saying.  It works with red's store.

Just make sure if you want to buy more than one item from red, buy one, then delete your cookies, then log in and buy the second one.  Otherwise you won't get the discount on the second item.

Grizzly sells welders by the way.  I ordered an oscillating spindle sander from them also.

Wow Brian!  Thanks for just saving me over $50.  I really need to save money every where I can these days and had already decided that I was going to get an IndivisionAGA at the AmiWest show from AmigaKit, but I couldn't pass up on this savings.

I like the idea of Microsoft paying 30% of my Amiga gear in this instance.  Wish I could get them to pay 30% for all my past & future Amiga purchases.

I don't remember how, but I had a MS-Live account and should be getting my rebate email confirmation shortly.

No way!  I am getting closer and closer to getting all Microsoft products out of my life as I find alternatives to the few Windows programs that I have needed for years.

I don't remember the exact details I provided when I signed up for the Windows Live, (or Windows Passport works too) account, but I am sure I did not provide anything damaging to me or very useful for MS, as I don't like them much. :-D

What a sad attitude to have. The right tool for the right job is my motto, if M$ products are the easiest to get hold of, easiest to install and easiest use, then M$ products it is.

Why cut your right arm off just because others say it might be evil?

I agree with alexh on this one, and no offense amigadave.  As with all markets of the world we will find fair, unfair, and down right despicable competition practices.  I know that M$ has done their best to beat competition back and keep their customer hostage to products that could have been greatly improved upon if the competition did not fear the onslaught of lawsuits that M$ would dispense upon them for trying.  But, as it is for my day to day business usage M$ products get the job done.  Don't hate the player, just he game.......

Mike

Edited - Oh, I purchased an Indivision from Redrumloa to save $53 from the cash back offer from M$!!!  I wonder if I can get Amigakit to put some items on ebay so I can get this cash back offer??????

I was hoping to get a mediator also.  But it looks like red doesn't carry them.  And amigakit and vesalia (ebay.de?) don't have ebay stores.  No matter.  My wife* already raised an eyebrow over two more useless :-o amiga parts.  And I don't have an accelerator for the 1200 yet anyway.

* In the woodworking forums, we call them SWMBO (she who must be obeyed).  I like to think that I wear the pants.  But it's probably a good idea that she continues to act as a dampener on my purchasing habits.  If I didn't listen to her, I'd probably waste all my money on 060/603e boards and woodworking machines.

That's odd.  You're not showing up in searches.  I'll see if I can find out why.

When you connect to ebay from live.com, it defaults the search to "Buy it now only".  But your auction are "buy it now or best offer" which filters them out.  If you click on the all auctions tab, your things show up.  It appears that the amigakit store works with this also.

It's not other's attitudes or opinions I am thinking of when I say I have had more than enough of MS Windows and their related products.  If they had the best and easiest to use, I would not have a problem using them, even with my knowledge and continued anger at how MS has run so many companies and innovations into the ground.  There are plenty of reasons to dislike MS for what they have done in the past, but I am just sick of all the problems I get with Windows, the excessive cost of their products, the way Word drives me crazy, etc.

I know there are Windows experts out there that never have all the trouble I have had, and good for them.  It is not for me, plus I believe in many of the MS EVIL past practices and have no doubt that they will repeat any of them they think they can get away with.  I wish the monopoly litigation had been successful and they were broken up into tiny pieces.  Maybe there would be some real new innovation in the computing world today.

I don't agree with their business philosophy or their product performance propaganda and my dislike of MS grows stronger every year.

It is not that hard to find good alternatives, I just wish that Windows did not have such a strangle hold on the market and programmers would have more incentive to write good applications for other OSes.

Just as a heads-up, this appears to be for US residents only. Here is a snippet from the terms and conditions:

----------------------------
The Program is open only to confirmed registered members of www.eBay.com who (a) click on an eBay paid search advertisement marked with the Live Search cashback logo, (b) are legal residents of the United States, (c) have a residence located in the United States tied to their account on www.eBay.com, (d) are eighteen (18) years of age or older and (e) satisfy the requirements set forth herein and in the Microsoft Program Terms;
----------------------------

That would have been a sweet way to get a discounted SAM440!

I'm not entirely sure what "Sucks" the most!?
The crap above or the actual price of a Deneb USB card in the first place!? Considering you can buy a PeeCee USB PCI card for around £15, is someone not taking the piss somewhere or are we all too blind to give a rats ass!?

PeeCee USB PCI cards use cheap ASIC's and are made in their millions which cuts the cost right back.

Deneb uses an FPGA and is made in the 100's.

While I think at £100 ($200) it is very expensive for what it is. Unfortunately it is the price you pay for custom electronics. I do not think anyone is getting rich here. 10% for the manufacturer and 10% for the retailer perhaps?
