Hi,
I would like to intruce you to my "Lovely Amiga 3000"... :-)
I bought the Amiga about two years ago already in a very good shape, and in this two years I decided to "make her perfect" (still in a WIP)! :-)
The configuration is as follow:
* mobo rev. 9/03
° INT2 mod
° kickstart 3.1
° DMAC 04
° Ramsey 07
° Super Buster 11
° WD33C93APL 00-08 9231 F)
° 18 Mb
° FB357A
* daughterboard rev. 7/01
* Cyberstorm MkIII
° 128 Mb
° IBM DNES-309170W (3.5" SCSI, 8.5 Gb)
* Toccata
° connected with Paula
* X-Surf 3cc
* Cybervision64 4 Mb
* Catweasel ZII
° LS-120
I made a custom backplate to have an external SCSI 68 pin connector and to replicate the two internal connectors of the Toccata! You can see in the photo the result...
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/PiattinaperToccataeSCSI1.jpg)
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/PiattinaperToccataeSCSI2.jpg)
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/PiattinaperToccataeSCSI3.jpg)
I have this plate online with the Catweasel that is an internal only card.
I decided to use the LS-120 for many reasons, the main is the possibility to put it in the case of an A3000! I had only to make some small modifications to the led position and to the button... again you can see in the photos the results! :-)
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/LS1201.jpg)
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/LS1202.jpg)
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/LS1203.jpg)
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/LS1204.jpg)
(http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq292/flaviosr/LS1205.jpg)
From outside it's impossible to distinguish the Amiga floppy and the LS-120... but they have different led colours!
I have OS3.9 installed with all HW configurated... it's really great! I connected the VGA, mouse and keyboard to an external switcher (also for my other Amigas... in the future I will describe them too) and then to a modern NEC 20WGDX2Pro... GREAT video quality!
I also use an external SCSI case with CD-burner, JAZ 2Gb and a backup HD... in the future I will put a ZIP250...
Only two things have to be done! :-(
* one is the modification of the battery... it is ok but in the future? I do not like coin batteries...
I would like to "cut" the original battery and put it in a small plastic transparent box with transparent silicon on it!
I could see the situation of the battery without it to ruin the mobo... I am only afraid to "touch" the mobo...
* the Toccata is noisy! :-(
I have read this is not so uncommon... any hint to solve the problem?
Thank you for you reading this post!

To learn what "rad" means, you'll have to watch this movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091817/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091817/)

Nice A3000. Starting to regret getting rid of mine... sob sob!

RAD, as in radical, or Rightiously Awesome Dude.
That is a nice unit ya got going there flaviosr, but ya really outa desolder the battery instead of cutting it out and replace it with the coin type.

Still can't get it on DVD!! (Well other than DVD-R at a few sites)
Guess it's LaserDisc only for this one for now.

Just to improve :-) my English I am "taking" these two films in these days... I hope English will not too difficult for me... :-|

OOH!! Very good!!
I really like the work concerning the two Toccata and the SCSI connectors.
I wish I have a X-Surf... I think I'm going to buy one.. :-)
Well, not now.... I've just bought a second A3000 :-o
Your work could be an ispiration... ;-)
P.S: Your english is not that bad. :-) My english comes from the high school age... :cry: It could fit a 880k floppy and run with 500k of memory :lol:

@Flavio:
Very beautiful A3000 you have!
For the two problems you have:
1- Battery: now exists NiMH batteries with the same shape and capacity of those old NiCd ones, go buy one and problem solved;
2- Toccata: Swap the electrolytic capacitors (SMD units) for new ones. Even regular-sized (105°C, preferably) will be OK.
-
where do you connect the ls 120 and doesn't it need somekind of special drivers ?
-
IDE port on the XSurf?

The Catweasel!!! It's a great card and I use it only for the LS-120!!!
If I remember well I tried the IDE controller of the X-Surf but I had bad results! It works (SLOWLY!!!!) with HD but not with LS-120... if somebody can use it I would appreciate to know how...
From the SW side I simply use IDEFix Express! :-) It works great... mmm... I never tried to boot from the LS-120... if I remember well my Catweasel version can boot... I will try as soon as I get back home...

I have understood almost nothing ;-) but it's great to read that I can try to solve the problem... I will call my "electronic friend" to do the job for me!!! Ua, Ua, Ua... ehm... sorry... ;-)
If I can do the job, I HAVE also to find a way to put somewhere some USB ports and the MP3@64! :-)
mmmm... I am crazy!!! But I think the A3000 is the better one (perhaps apart A3000T and A4000T!)... I do not care if it miss the AGA chipset! :-o
-
I came to that same conclusion a year or so ago. I have fallen in love with the A3000's. I used to think that you needed AGA to have a truly "Modern" Amiga but I was wrong. All I miss is some games and a couple of paint programs. There is nothing I miss from the A4000D and the only thing that would be nice to have from the A4000T is the 2 video slots.
