Title: CD32 and CDTV used on Panasonic LCD..picture is shifted to the left
Post by: AmigaFun on September 29, 2008, 06:43:34 PM
Hello all

The problem I am having is this. I use both a CDTV and a CD32 on a Panasonic 37"lcd tv. We have two of these sets and both have the same problem. When using RGB the picture is shifted to the left so a black bar is visible on the right and what ever is shown on the left of the screen cant be seen. I have also tried the CD32 on a Samsung 19"LCD and that is fine. Does anyone know of a solution to this or seen it before?
I should say that the TV's are OK as we use a PVR with RGB output that works fine.
Thanks

Martin

Could you explain how you've connected the Amigas to the Samsung? With: 1) a scandoubler 2) composite out 3) RGB->SCART or 4) RGB->VGA ?

Also, what model is the Panasonic and what model is the Samsung?

Hi da9000, all Amigas are connected using the RGB-Scart cable (CD32 also, as using the floppy adapter with RGB output).
The model of the Panasonic is TX-37LXD70, and the Samsung is an LE19R86D.
As I have said, the TV's work OK on other RGB kit.

I dont have a Panasonic but I do see similar things mentioned with Panasonics every so often on Home Theatre forums, check out these links ...

Um......where did you get this Floppy adaptor with RGB port?  I have never heard of it?

Do you mean the SX-1 or the SX32 or ProModule?

can you post pics?

@leirbag28

I have posted 2 photos today of the adapter that I am referring to. It was bought from Analogic. I am confident the hardware is ok as we tried another one in the shop so it must be a Panasonic thing.

@tribz
Hmmm, I have had a look through the the links you gave and it looks almost the same problem. The picture is not 'rolled over' as it were though, it just has a 1" black bar on the right. I would like to say the Panasonic is faulty, but on two sets? and bearing in mind that other RGB sources are OK.
I have emailed Panasonic sometime back about this but they just gave a generic reply referring to PC's. I will contact them again though as it's too much like the faults described in the Home Theater forum links you gave to run the risk of a warranty problem .

Thanks

can you see if the problem is the same with just using the composite output from the CD32? if it is, then i suspect that your RGB2SCART lead only has leads connected to replicate a composite output connection.
any chance you can test with the S/VHS output too just to make sure that when the TV gets enough signal information it can display a nice picture.

i got this kinda problem using the composite in on my lcd tv. actaully the picture would move left to right and then back by one or two pixels every couple of seconds as i guess the TV was having trouble trying to figure out the display timing.
i stumped up for a full RGB to scart lead from amigakit and all was well.

but as the problem you're getting is similar to the support forums i'd suspect that...

just try all avenues before calling it in :-)

@darksun9210

I have used the S/VHS output to the tv and that is OK, but not as good quality as the RGB. The cable I have is from Amigakit and was used on the Samsung TV and was perfect on that.
I have emailed Panasonic, as yet, no reply.

Hi,
it's fully normal for a TV set.
In a video Frame, a RGB HSync and the picture start near 0ms but in Composite/Svideo Hsync and the picture start a bit later !
This is why you've got this "problem".
We have it in France since 1980 !

The solutions :
* HACK the "service mode" to "recenter" the TV
-> you'll loose the centering in all other mode !!!

* use the VGA input for RGB
-> if the monitor can handle it... (15Khz...)

* use a broadcast TBC with RGB in/out, with a caption/H.Phase knob !
-> Extra RARE these day and overpriced
 :-o   Payed mine in 1993 20000 Francs -> 3000 euros ($5000 ?)
