Title: Black A1200
Post by: AndyC on September 28, 2008, 03:36:13 PM
Hi all..

Over the last wee while I've browsed to a few posts featuring customised black amiga 1200s.

Problem is, I can't find them (no matter what I type into the search engine...)

I want to have a look at the internal slimline cd-rom solution, perhaps with a couple of USB ports courtesy of a Spider USB.

I'll also need the buffered IDE interface, and a Blizzard SCSI kit (god knows where I'll get one of them...)

Lastly, a wireless PCMCIA network card and I'll be cooking with gas.

Anyhow, any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
AndyC

"Spider" is an overpriced and bastarized PCI-USB-card lacking the SW to make it useable, don't know what you would want with  that in a desktop-A1200 .....

A SubWay-USB-card for the clockport might come handier.

Slim line CD into an A1200: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=39304

Buffered IDE interface for A1200: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=42&products_id=532 (I have one and it works great)

PCMCIA Wifi for A1200: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=39319

Hope these help you on your way.

Why do you need SCSI?

Buffered interface could be a great idea, it can be tricky to match a slim DVD/CD with a 2.5" HD or CF-card on the same cable.

IMHO internal slim DVD/CD is not worth it, yes it looks cool but you can just as easely just get a PCMCIA->CF adapter, install win filesystem and transfer files over on a 4 GB CF-card. Less is more.

(the same could be said about USB to)

Disassemble the A1200 and spray paint the case  :-)

I've not had a problem. Just a case of putting the CF on slave as the laptop drives seem to be master with no way of changing (or at least the ones i've tried have been).

@ Kronos

Good spot... that's what I meant to say - clockport USB ports (subway).

AmigaKit don't seem to have any in stock at the moment. Are they still in production?

Cheers!

@ cv643d...

Hi there - I'm just wanting the SCSI kit for my phase 5 blizzard 1260 to add the extra RAM, and the option of a SCSI device (or 7...).

Having said that, I'd be looking to sell or trade my surf squirrel and CD-Rom drive if I did get the internal option...

Cheers,
AndyC

Do you have an Indivision AGA (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170259888513&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT) yet? I just mounted one in my personal A1200 and decided to custom mount the connector since I have a DB25 external SCSI in the spare port.

Hey Red...

Not yet, but very tempted -however I just got a RGB -> scart cable and the picture is pretty good.

All depends on budget (and whether the wife is happy for me to spend £100 on the Amiga in one go!!!

Cheers,
AndyC

Use DFS tactics. Tell her that it is on sale right now and in a few months time it will cost £250 so you are actually saving the two of you £150!

If she's anything like any woman I've ever met she'll only hear "on sale" and "save £150" and forget what it actually costs and give you the go ahead.
