Title: WHDload feeze ?
Post by: TheGoose on September 25, 2008, 08:16:10 PM
Hi - Does WHDload freeze up for you at all? I've been playing Lemmings. And it's like a timer is ticking down ... it eventually freezes up.

I can do a F10 to exit and start it up again fine.

I get intermittent freezes and access faults with a few games (like Lionheart, grrr), you may have to try adjusting the tooltypes, especially on an '040 or '060.

I get random resets and guru's when exiting some games ... I have the Blizzard Mk IV '040 and it's irksome lol

Yeah, I'm moving on to some other games tonight, see what happens. Admittedly I've been using pre-loads from here:

A lot of these have some crazy stuff in the tooltype settings, allows for cheats and other 'fixes'  ...

I wonder if they are suspect.

Do you have any patches to the OS running? I had big problems with WHDLoad (freezes) when I tried some patches that messed around with my RAM disk. I ended up using a backup of my system.

My blizzard 1240 also have some issues with whdload . Some games run super fast and the soundtrack is horrible "example in settlers" However i never had any problems either with my BPPC 060 or Apollo 060, same for the 1230IV and blizzard 1220. I think the 1240 has serious issues. I will try to confirm this with my 040 BPPC

Well, now you say it. I have a DENEB and in order to get it to run, I have this:

SetPatch QUIET NOCACHE

in my startup-sequence. Seems innocent but that is an A-typical setting and does affect memory & CPU? The machine is an 030 25Mhz.

Settlers works just fine on my Warp Engine 040 WITHOUT WHDload. I haven't tried WHDload yet so dont know if running it from that would affect me. I'll have to give it a try.

030 should be very compatible. Try without the Setpatch settings and test I'd say.

Same here the disks work fine ....

One more thing. USB stack and Network tend to make whdload unusable i have to set my Trident to all offline and not connect to miamiDX....

Yep. That's a known problem. Something to do with hardware interrupts.

Bottom line: TCP/IP and USB should be offline when running WHDLoad

Ah, well this does help. I was sort of close. I have a X-surf and DENEB. I don't even use the network card hardly.

I'll take the Trident "offline" and see how that goes.

Thanks People!

Let us know how it goes as I am currently building my A4000 and am planning to use WHDload and maybe get an X-Surf for the machine. I'd hate for it to not all work.

The best way to test the game works would be without a Startup-Sequence or a very standard 3.0 SS.
