Hello All,
After weeks have managed to get the Voodoo card to work on the Mediator, But looking at the software there is no USB stack. The CD is copyright 2001. So does that mean I don't have a USB stack and will have to buy the updated software. Thanks in advance, Merv Stent :crazy:

there is no Elbox USB stack. if you have a Spider card you are screwed basically... :devildance:

Last time I checked it wasn't who were punishing users by refusing to let users register.
Perhaps someone should disassemble and crack Poseidon.

that is wrong in so many ways... :-(

Or perhaps people should disassemble and crack ROB?

It wasn't wrong when it was Elbox's drivers that were disassembled.

Aren't all Elbox drivers free with their products? What would be the point of disassembling their drivers?

I think you should be familiar enough with past events for me not to explain.
-
I cannot remember.
Was it something to do with Elbox's product Allegro?

@alexh
People were complaining that the Spider was just a standard USB card with its I.D. changed so that only it would work with their drivers.
Someone disassembled the drivers and found that that there was code that was designed to trash the RDB if the driver was modified to run on the USB card that spider was based on.
A huge row started on the forums over this, eventually leading to Elbox remove the malicious code from their drivers.

I don't remember it.
The markup that Elbox makes is their business if anyone does not like it, they can choose to buy something else. Or do without.
Everyone knows what a tight ass I am when it comes to money but I do not agree with someone trying to hack Amiga software still on sale to circumvent paying high prices.

@alexh
I think Elbox probably locked the drivers to the USB card because they and many dealers didn't make a penny on the graphics, sound and network cards that people bought for their Mediators.
I think Chris Hodges' decision to pull support for Spider owners was something that came out of the "RDB trashing code row", so when I posted about cracking Poseiden, it was supposed to be ironic.
I try to support Amiga developers where I can. Buying/registering products and making donations here and there.
If Chris would let Spider owners register Poseiden I'd probably get a Spider and then he could have some of my money too.
-
I am sure there is much more to the story.
Unfortunately I doubt Chris will re-open registration. He doesn't have to if he doesn't want to.
Bah, these softies! Temperamental old farts. You touch up their woman once... ok twice and they never talk to you again... sheesh! :-)

The Spider is an Elbox product ("solution"?) so they need to take come up with the software that makes it usable. End of the story.
